First time build: Coldcast Templar
Hey all, I recently sunk my teeth into Path of Exile, and it's been great fun so far (my God Cruel Dominus is a brick wall though!), but I'm a little sick of following someone else's build, so I whipped something together. I figured that, if Piety is Lightning and Gravicius is Fire, then shouldn't the Exile Templar be (mostly) Ice? My knowledge of the intelligence third of the tree is sorely lacking, though, so advice is much appreciated. Please note that I almost always play self-found, so trading is something I like to keep to a minimum.
Passive Tree: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUBBAcFWwdjCPQWbxmFHNwdFB8CJDwkqiaVLR8tRzLRNns2xTbpO-FFR0WdRtdHBkk7SVFMs1AwUEJVS1XGWm1dxl8qX2ptGXkDeqp_xoIeiEKLeouMjDaPRo_6muCnCKcrp1y0OLSjtQS4k8BUwcXB889l0NDVT9gk2wvbXtvn3nfhc-L342rlGeaB6-Tr7uwY7SD60vv1 This is a 1H mace and shield build. Skills: The skills chosen are intentionally ones that a Templar can find on his own. I do technically have a huge stash of gems on Ambush at this point, but there may come a day where I want to put this Templar on Hardcore, so I don't want to rely on that. Glacial Hammer - (Melee Splash) - Close range punch and freezing. Splash might be optional, but I put it up in case the next skill isn't enough damage up close. Glacial Cascade - Main AoE, longer range. Ice Nova will be used in the early game, but from what I've seen Glacial Cascade seems to be the better skill by far. --> Edit: If you don't want to stick to the theme entirely, Ground Smash is much better for leveling up to Brutus, after which you can pick up Glacial Cascade. Tempest Shield - Okay, honestly I'm mostly using this for the Templar symbol it puts on the shield, but it will also mix up damage types a little. I'm not sold on this one, however, due to the 25% reserved mana. (I can also get the Templar symbol by using Enduring Cry - Immortal Call, but I'm a little hesitant to use that, since my current character already does that as well.) Curse: Frostbite / Temporal Chains - Simple. Frostbite lowers Cold Res, and Chains slows down enemies that aren't/can't be frozen. Enfeeble would also work, but sadly isn't a self-found. Totem? - In the past I've employed Rejuvenation totems as a secondary target. I play alone, so the totem is useful to distract rare mobs. Supposedly Decoy totems do the same but better, I've never got the chance to mess with them. Any others I should consider? No, I will not take Searing Bond. Auras? - I've run only Blood Magic builds so far, so these have been completely off the table. Hatred would work on here, maybe? I'm concerned about what will happen to my mana pool for Eldritch Battery, though. Any thoughts? Finally, please keep in mind that this is not an uber efficiency build. It's possible I'll do that in the future, but I find that highly unlikely, since I'm not that kind of person. This is just something that I threw together because it would look awesome. That being said, even impractical builds can use some tuning to make their basic idea work, and I could use the build tips, being a noob and all.
