Cannot identify corrupted map

Is the unaibility to identify a map supposed to be a possible outcome of Vaal orbing a map?

I had an identified rare map with some pretty easy affixes so though I'd Vaal orb it instead of chaosing for once.

Now I have the corrupted map below that I cannot identify.

Is that normal?
yea its normal. "corrupted" means that no currency can be used on the item, including scrolls of wisdom.

but the map gets a 20% quality bonus for being rare unidentified, if u can handle lots of mods and are not afraid to do the hardest 8-mods maps(only possible with corruption, otherwise 6mods max) corrupting maps can be fun/efficient.
Cheers thanks, I thought Vaaling it just added mods, had no idea that it could also make it unidentified.

Think I'll wait till I level up before giving it a go :-)

Knowing my luck, with my CI summoner, one of the mods will be blood magic.

As far as I know, assuming the map itself didn't change (vaal'ing can turn a map into a map one level higher, not sure if it's un-id in that case), the corrupted map will have the same mods as it had when you rolled it -- you just get the bonus from it being unidentified.

I recall reading in one of the early SotV threads that a corrupted map that becomes unidentified has the same mods as the original rare map - the change being that you gain the 20% quantity for being unidentified.
cheers, wish i'd written the mods down now though they were pretty easy ones from memory.

To clarify, it's a 30% item quantity bonus that applies to any unidentified map (although I've tried it with a unique and don't think it applies to those because you can know what they are based off type, I'm not sure there's any way to definitively know that without confirmation from GGG)

I personally run all lower level maps that I find unidentified for the bonus because the 30% bonus in worth more on a low map, and it's less of a loss if you just quit it because you simply can't do it.
It def. has the same mods it had, before you vaal´d it.
