Does Spell crit chance work for lighting trap

I thought about it for awhile, seeing as lighting trap in particular works off spell damage and lighting damage therefore would it not work off spell crit chance? but yet traps aren't considered traps, so therefore 60% crit chance(doomcast) would be useless?
Was it intended to be designed like this?

The "lightning nova" effect cast by the lightning trap is indeed a spell, so spell modifiers including doom cast will apply to it.

Technically, every effect that does not do weapon damage is a spell, the question is does it do spell damage type too, some don't. Lightning trap does indeed do spell damage so spell crit applies, bear trap doesn't, for instance.

But yet, traps are not considered spells. and like so aren't affected by cast speed, lighting trap in particular is so weirdly designed, its a trap that has projectiles that proc off spell damage.... 100% sure?

I am sure spell crit works for fire trap. Should likely also work for lightning and it is easy to check. Equipping one item with a spell crit chance mod like a spirit shield will change the tooltip crit chance for it.

They still use a spell effect, you just don't 'cast' it, you 'place' a trap and it casts a spell. If we had traps that behave like assassin sentries from D2 they would benefit from cast speed.

Yes, 100% sure, lightning trap effect does [spell, lighting, projectile, trap] damage so it is affected by mods that increase any of those, and spell crit also applies.

Besides, it's really easy to test if a skill does spell damage, check damage on skill tooltip, equip a wand and check again.
