Block Animation

I'm only level 25 so far, with about 35% chance to block, and I've never seen any indication that I've blocked an enemies attack. Is there an animation for it, or does it just randomly proc and you really have to watch your health to notice if it happens? Never noticed a sound effect or a visual that indicated a block was successful.

There is an animation for it.
The character slowly move back with shield raise.
