Using Orbs of fusing on an item should not result in zero links

ampdecay, dude you didn't understand, it's not about additional link, that way it will be completely broken as you said. I mean it's about one new link between some sockets, so there is no chance to roll nothing(zero links) cause it's worthless.
edit changed thread title, hope it's clearer now, so there is ni mislead on additional links

Ah ok then, the title was misleading but I see what you're saying now and I guess I don't really see a problem with it at least always resulting in one link
B E E F
so once again(sorry):

f.e. if i have an armor with 6 sockets and 3 link-lines. at the moment 1+2, 2+4 and 5+6 are linked together.

so this item cannot be made as 5 or 6 linked or?

(it can only be 4linked max, 1+2, 2+4, 4+6)

The fine print on orb of fusing should read something like "Don't bother to use me until you have end game gear, or you will QQ".

Yeah, there chances of failure as too damn high. I spent 8 on just trying to get a 3 link...

"Reforge" in this case means "Reroll". As in, remove all links from the item and reroll the chance at each being connected.

It's no different than the jeweler's orb (Which doesn't ADD a socket but instead completely rerolls the item's number of sockets) bringing you down to one socket from three when you were hoping to bring it up to four.

These orbs aren't meant to give you the perfect 6 socket all-linked item unless you are incredibly lucky.

You use them when you get something like a really good stat allocated rare which only has 1 socket, so you toss a jeweler's or two at it to bump it up and then a fusing or two to try to link 'em.

one or two...

lolololololololol...

I've wasted stacks and stacks of quality improvers and stacks and stacks of fusings/jewellers/chromatics to the point where I don't even bother anymore.
It's easier to save them for trading, and/or wait for a 3l/4l/5l/6l (depending on item type) white item to drop and hope, hope, that I can just alch/chaos/blessed it to where it's halfway decent... then I'll chromatic it into something I can use, improve the quality (easier to use 20x of them once instead of 4x of them in 20+ rolls), and vaal it if I'm feeling lucky and I've got a decent backup piece of gear.

It will always be cheaper to buy an item than it will be to craft it. That's because if it were the other way, people would craft for a profit and we'd see supply shoot through the roof. It simply can't happen in anything close to the long term. It's never going to be to your advantage to craft. Period. People will do it for other reasons, but there will never be an incentive to do so to gain value.
Rise from the dead ye necro thread.
The worst part is the endless clicking.

Put up a machine in Sarn where you insert the item and select how many fusings you want to use, then it rolls the result for you. Call it the Fus'O'Matic.

I disagree. I think the worst part is the endless hoarding and uncertainty, and having no low-risk consumable option that allows for "on the fly" Fusing consumption on current gear. What is the point of a single Fusing Orb? Is there any value in it? Could it have negative value as a consumable? How much value is there in 10 Fusings based solely on their consumable functionality?

Simply put, imo, the worst part is having no "nothing happens" option. There is no way to force a Fusing, or a Jeweller's for that matter, to not downgrade your items upon use. They unyieldingly obsolete any and all previous results. They are, perhaps, one of the most sadistic of GGG's RNG implementations, and they are, in fact, garbage. The fact that Vorici was implemented should prove how garbage-like Fusings and Jeweller's are. I bet the player-usage data of Vorici backs up the claim that the general player is averse to using garbage.

In any case orb of fusing is most useless curency unit in the currency system
Jeweller's are worse. Jeweller's can destroy sockets and links.
Therefore, Jeweller's are even more garbage-like than Fusings.

Edit: Not to mention that Fusings and Jeweler's still cannot be used "back and forth". As in, you cannot 4L, then go for 6 sockets while maintaining at least the 4L, then go for 5L while maintaining the 6S and at least a 4L. There is no progression, just unyielding random change, and it sucks terribly.
TY to those who called me out on my BS on these forums. There is no benefit to being so selfish as to fail to acknowledge others' differing beliefs of what "should be" or believe your own opinions so supreme as to be factual and thus dismiss others' opinions as being somehow a lie or delusional.

+1 to Shag. Very good point. Didn't think about the reverse.
