Also, contrary to some of the above posters, you're NOT a 'dumbass' for trusting people to not be scumbags.

I hate scammers more than the average person but there is no trick here. He just needs to look at the item that he is -required- to scroll over.

But there IS a trick here. The scammers switch the item they were promising. Required or not, the onus is on the people doing the trade to NOT pull a quick scumbag move on a trusting person.

In most games this true, in PoE it is not. In PoE you can not accept the trade prior to scrolling over the item. Once you do so, if they switch the item, you must once again scroll over it to accept the trade.

It sucks and it can happen to anyone. I'm sure it could have happened to me because I often just scroll over the item without doing anything more than looking at the name of it, especially when it is a relatively cheap purchase.

So, don't feel like an idiot for this happening, just learn your lesson and be more careful in the future. Also, take comfort in the fact that you still have your pride unlike the scammer.

Many years ago I was scammed out of a $20 30 day extension item in Even Online. It was very upsetting, the best you can do is reconcile the fact that there are people out there who don't care about how their actions negatively effect others and it will prevent you from REALLY getting scammed later on in life.

So, consider yourself lucky you lost $5-$10 at most instead of $20,000 or some such later on in life.

He said that the guy was pretending to sell normal uncorrupted gear, bro.

I'm fairly sure the OP just didn't know that you couldn't modify corrupted gear and as a cover is claiming somehow he didn't notice the big red "corrupted" line at the bottom of whatever imaginary hypothetical item we are talking about here

But I still don't gather from anything in his semi-legible post that there was a "bait-and-switch" involved.

He's is almost certainly not lying.

When people think they are getting a really good deal human tendency is to accept the trade/transaction as quickly as possible. That may have been the case here. In his haste to complete the transaction for the great item at a bargain price, he didn't check the item carefully.
I hope you're trolling lmao
it was as simply as pming an uncorrupt voideye then trading a corrupt voideye.

Sure we can blame me for trusting a scammer. And" we can also give the players a more secure trading mechanism.
Any betrayal you can see is trivial, What is truly frightening and much more lethal is the
betrayal you cannot see.

It's as secure as it can be because you can have a look in the window before accepting. The only way a player can be assured of honourable transactions is to trade within an established trading group and not with random people.

There is really no way to make it anymore secure, it is perfect as is when used correctly.

Adding a big 'C' over the icon would help this one situation, but, then what next?

Another icon for a different type of undesirable property introduced later in the game?

Do you show an icon when boots don't have any movement speed?

Then which icon do you show when there are multiple undesirable issues with an item?

It just doesn't make sense for them to do it as future development may necessitate removal of the feature.

You just have to scroll over the item and take 4-5 seconds to read it.

It sucks, but, you must accept responsibility that this could have been avoided if you were more careful. NOBODY likes to admit it was their naivety that allowed somebody to pull one over on them, but, it happens to everybody at one point or another in their life. People want to trust everyone they come into contact with, unfortunately you must assume everybody who you aren't very close to is trying to screw you over.

items when in a trade screen to help prevent such scamming"

Dude.... they say corrupt on them...

Are you just trading 500 items at a time and don't read them at all?

Warning: if you get any email from nijerr princes, DO NOT REPLY TO THEM!!!! :P

I consider the fact that it says "Corrupted" in bright red on the item as being fair warning. There is already a mechanism in place to ensure that you have to look at every item before you accept the trade.

Sorry OP made a mistake, but that's what happened.

OP should be banned from trading... for his own good.
