Item - Doedre's Tenure
So I recently came into possession of this (psyched for the first Orange drop and even for my class and build!). However, the -20% Casting speed is a -huge- detriment to the item's usability as is. I'm not sure if there are random affixes to uniques as there is in D3 (I'm sure there's at least a range for the abilities). The +40% spell damage is very nice, and I'm using them for now (Previous gloves where pretty iffy, and what can I say, I'm a sucker for uniques). But the gloves are actually a DPS downgrade to wearing nothing due to the speed reduction. Now, it works kinda sorta with my build (crit heavy glass cannon), but it's really noticeable, and I kill more effectively without them equipped (i.e no gloves at all) so this Item should be looked at.
My suggestion would be either increase the Damage bonus to +50% (or increase its range to provide near that, my current are +40% Spell Damage), reduce the Speed Reduction to -10% (or perhaps eliminate it, -10% seems about right, and should at least keep the gloves even in overall DPS, while they still offer bigger spike in damage with high power spells). Or add either a Crit Rate or Crit damage into it, which lends it toward that style of play, where it relies on infrequent, but massive, hits to balance out a lower overall DPS. " Sometimes it is better to strike heavily less often than it is to strike frequently with little force. And you cant normally get spell damage on gloves thus the penalty. |

" Sometimes yes. Rarely though. It is so often exclusively better to strike often with less force, then the other way around. This is true of almost every game made since. Well forever. Unless there is a mitigation system that can commonly result in 0 damage (I'm not sure I've played a video game that has something like that implemented). |

Going from two-hitting to one-hitting makes a massive difference. Hitting harder is good.
Uniques are almost always situational. Doedre's Tenure grants essentially free damage to Tempest Shield; you only need to cast it once anyways. It's not that great for (say) FP generally, but if you want to maximise damage-per-cast, it's your best bet. |

One of my favorite things about theory crafting builds in PoE is the is the competition between attack/cast speed and damage per hit (i.e. for passive points and item mods), namely their interaction with critical stikes. Faster hits are better at procing crits via more attempts to crit per second, while heavier hits offer stronger status ailments when crits do proc. But the benefits extend beyond just crits, and this nature leads to many reasons to build one way or the other, balance the two, or build anywhere in between.
It seems to me that, perhaps, this unique was not as well suited for your build as you thought..? One of the main difference between fast vs heavy is play style, and what what you've described of your build, faster attacks benefit weaker defenses by allowing easier reflex response for the 'ol scoot and shoot. Of topic, but protip: Glass cannon is not feasible in late game PoE. Heck, "decent" defenses aren't really viable either if you expect to prolong your progress (15% exp penalty is pretty damning at level 80+). There's a point where enough damage is enough, and any more is just wasteful. Devolving Wilds Land “T, Sacrifice Devolving Wilds: Search your library for a basic land card and reveal it. Then shuffle your library.” Last edited by CanHasPants#3515 on Jan 31, 2013, 4:47:19 AM

Those gloves are better on builds that don't rely much on casting speed due effects over time such as Fire Trap or Fire Storm.
Also keep in mind that Status Ailments depends on damage, so those gloves are an alternative to boost crit strikes. |

" Adds molten shell, and reletively good with ice spear, any fire build based on burning. You can offset -20% with faster casting support and few passives ,seems pretty good in general for gloves. 50% increased spell damage is impossible on any rare item. Also fast casting speed weights more on mana so your skills would be also cheaper. Uniques in this game is not way to go, it is way to make interesting builds.
