In game method of checking base attributes (without removing gear)

I am sure many of us have seen that gem level up and pop up on the right side of the screen and quickly click it to level. Then find out afterward that you have just went over you base attribute cap and have to scour it so you can use it again once you swap up a piece of gear that gave you that little attribute boost that had let you level the gem in the first place.

After asking around I was told the only way to check was to remove all your gear. Now for someone who does not have a great memory and trying to play on 3-4 characters back and forth remembering what their base attributes are as you put more points into each of them as you go it makes it quite difficult to keep track of this. I suggest there be a method of checking without the gear removal say hover over your attributes and it could list what the base is without the addition of gear or even have the base and in brackets beside it what it is after gear is taken into account. Another possibility to avoid this annoyance would be to when you hover over the gem to level it and it shows the next level requirements you could show it there as stated stated before with your base and then in brackets with gear.

When it comes to something as simple as leveling a gem I don't want to have to take the time to check all of my gear to make sure I didn't throw something on for temporary use that gives me 10 to strength on my ranger and over level a gem to find out 20 min later when i take that gear off the item which holds the gem is now red and I need to scour the gem, start a new gem, plan out extra strength in my tree or swap an amulet or other piece of gear I wanted to keep wearing for one that makes up for the strength that I just went over to keep using this gem. I do understand Scouring orbs are in there for a reason but I do not think that you should be worried that leveling that gem might cost you a scouring unless you check out all your gear before you click that +.

Anyone else happen to agree?
Any other suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Bump, I also had a friend mention another possibility that on the skill tree over your characters starting point be the origin of your base stats that way the others would not need to be modified but there would still be a source to find what your base attribute points were without gear.
Now, another way you can check it is to copy paste your current build into the offline skillpoint calculator:

I agree however, it would be nice to see ones base stats displayed aswell. I actually believe Brother Laz's Median for Diablo 2 had this. Really useful.
Possibly having a page 2 (or brackets) on the character screen would be great,

showing BASE character stats (after skill tree, before items)
base damage before percentile increases
base element damages before percentile increases
base life before percentile increases
just to list a few,

these are large deciding factors in where to spend your skill points.
aka if you have 1200 base life but in reality you've got 2100 after increases then you can calculate weather to spend a skill point on that 6 percent life node or the 16 percent armour node

the 2100 life is deceiving

the stat points are my main concern with the gem leveling.
