Vaal Orbs have too many outcomes to be useful

So there are a few possible outcomes for Vaal Orbs that are amazing. I'd love to have + 1 to all elem resits on my armor. Or an extra Frenzy charge on my amulet. But even if you throw out the negative outcomes, there are soooo many "positive" outcomes that it makes using a Vaal Orb hoping for one pointless. It makes no sense for me to Vaal my decent 5L armor or Amulet that already has stats my build needs to try for these. And I am a gambler at heart - but the odds here are so far out of whack especially since there is potential to completely ruin the item.

Out of curiosity, how does everyone else feel?

Don't use Vaal Orbs on stuff you don't wanna lose. Use Vaal orbs on stuff that is kinda ok but not immediately useful to you.

That's the whole problem in that in it's current state - that is how Vaal orbs need to be used. Vaaling half decent items in my stash I am not using and still won't use even if they get a good roll seems pointless.

Tell that to the guy who has a 6L Quill of Rain with one additioal arrow corrupted on it.

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

That depends entirely on the roll, don't you think?

Let's say you're currenty wearing a rare +20 all stats onyx amulet that gives you the life, resist and whatever else you need.

In your stash you've got another rare +20 all stats onyx amulet that gives you life, resist at whatever else, but at slightly lower values than what you currently got.

Now you fire off a vaal orb on the not-used onyx amulet and it suddenly now grants +1 whatever charge you need, or a level 15 skill you could also use or some other unique modifier that is useful to you.

Now you got an amulet with slightly lower stats but a unique mod you could probably use, do you take the stat hit and put on the corrupted amulet or do you stick with the old amulet with better stats but no unique properties?

You vaal :
1) Cheap uniques that can get additional benefit (like bones of ullr)
2) When the bonus itself is more important for you then stats on item
3) When you are obnoxiously rich and want to push your items beyond insane

I've only been getting two results lately.

1. Item converted to 1S rare with crap mods.
2. Item corrupted with no changes.

I don't mind the variety of good possibilities. I can resell items with a mod that is good but not appropriate for my character. I just cannot seem to roll anything.

Since I'm still leveling up, I haven't had a need to corrupt any of my items yet... From what I've seen though, people relegate Vaal Orbs to either a unique they wish to improve on and can replace, a ballsy attempt at making a godlike unique even better, or, the method I've been following, improving on Gemcutter's Strongboxes (using a Vaal Orb on one corrupts all gems inside. While many may become useless, there's nothing to lose when getting five quality gems that people would not want to 20% anyway.)
I can't honestly believe some people are suggesting content released in this insanely hyped up patch should be used on bad items. Vaal Orbs are pointless, so many people use them for the 'lulz' to see what stats will roll.
