Astronomical Cost For Orbs Of Alchemy.

Alright, to start this off, lets school all of you in the price for stuff first hand.

1 Portal Scroll = 3 Wisdom Scrolls

This is very important.

Orb Of Transmutation = 7 Portal Scrolls

Orb Of Augmentation = 4 Orbs of Transmutation

Orb Of Alteration = 4 Orbs of Augmentation

Jewelers Orb = 2 Orbs of Alteration

Orb of Fusing = 4 Jewelers Orbs

Orb of Chance = 1 Orb of Fusing

Orb of Scouring = 4 Orbs of Chance

Orb of Regret = 2 Orbs of Scouring

Orb Of Alchemy = 1 Orb of Regret

These are the listed barters for These items.

Now, lets get into mathematical detail.

If a portal scroll costs 3 wisdom scrolls, and it takes 7 portal scrolls to get 1 orb of transmutation, Then

7(4) to get 1 orb of Augmentation
(7 being the cost of one orb of transmutation in portal scrolls and the 4 being 4 orbs of transmutation needed to get an orb of augmentation)

28(4) 4 orbs of Augmentation for 1 Alteration
so, 112 Portal Scrolls for 1 Alteration Orb

112(2) it costs 2 Alteration Orbs for 1 Jewelers Orb
224 Portal Scrolls for 1 jewelers orb

224(4) For 1 Orb of Fusing
896 Portal Scrolls for 1 Orb of Fusing

896(1) for 1 orb of chance

896(4) for 1 orb of Scouring
3584 Portal Scrolls for one orb of Scouring

3584(2) for 1 Orb of regret
7168 Portal Scrolls for 1 Orb of Regret

7168(1) for 1 Orb of Alchemy

Now, This is only in portal Scrolls. lets go back, and change portal scrolls to Wisdom Scrolls.
Now, the Conversion is 3 to 1.
The 3 being wisdom scrolls and the 1 being portal scrolls.

So.
3 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Portal Scroll.

21 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Orb of Transmutation

84 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 orb of Augmentation

336 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 orb of Alteration

672 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Jewelers Orb

2688 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Orb of Chance

10752 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Orb of Scouring

21504 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Orb of Alchemy

Now wait a sec.
21504 wisdom scrolls for 1 orb of alchemy, that sounds a bit much doesn't it, but it's true.

It costs 7168 Portal Scrolls for 1 orb of alchemy
as i said before, it takes 3 wisdom scrolls for 1 portal scroll.
so, 7168(3) = 21505 Wisdom Scrolls for 1 Orb of Alchemy.

A bit over priced?
You will ALWAYS get under the value of the currency you trade for recipes when dealing with an NPC vendor. This has even been mentioned by the GGG staff.

So taking that into consideration, you've got multiple different levels of you being ripped off by an NPC vendor here. Of course comparing the two is astronomical.

While your math is correct, this is all irrelevant.

The economy is self managed by usefulness of currency in crafting, and drop frequency.

GGG have also limited upper ranges of some currencies by putting them in vendors.

I hope you had fun on your calculator though :)
You dont buy a house with coins...

Your Wisdom Scrolls are to identifiy items or do smaller trades.

Try fusing its 1:1 ...
Thank god it takes much less time finding a single Regret than 21,504 wisdom scrolls then...
Or, just finding an Alch instead of buying it...

But try to remember how many times you've ripped them off with the 'wisdom scroll -> chromatic' deal? They have a right to rip you off :P

No. The vendors need to make a living. How else do you think they survive in Wraeclast? Fishing?

It isn't the intent to have players grind the various orbs up to the higher tier ones through purchase/selling through the NPC vendors. Up until recently, it wasn't even intended that the Orb of Alchemy be available through NPC vendors, and could only be found in the wild.

The concept of a 'gold free' economy is barter/trade, not fiat currency arbitrage through a fixed rate exchequer. Ideally, currency orb valuation should be established by market supply/demand in the 'wild' (i.e. drops/usage), and not through artificial creation by using pre-established exchange values through an NPC vendor.

There are some very interesting threads on this board that talk about the decision to do away with a standardized currency.
"We were going to monitor the situation but it was in the wrong aspect ratio."
In all honesty I get more alch´s then regrets or scourings.
They can drop.

Thankfully I do so enjoy doing math.

and to be honest, it's not so much irrelevant as you think.
Perhaps a New(er) player will find this information delectable.
