So... why bother leveling any caster gem at all if it wasnt successfully corrupted?

On the other hand, GCP prices might go up.

Corrupted gems cant level. You also can't use gcp's on them.

" So basically get a level 20 gem, it becomes worthless if you fail and priceless if you +1? yay more RNG to pressure players into trading GGG: we know everybody loved the situation with 5L and 6L, so we extended it to gems too. " All corrupted gems presumably drop at level 1 from the size-zone chests. It would be foolish if they could not level once you picked them up. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/806998 The Vaal Molten Shell gem here still has an exp bar, so presumably it can still level up. The OP's point is: Once you have access to Vaal Orbs, why would you not corrupt multiple gems until you got the +1 level/+3 quality and then level, rather than waiting for level 20 gems then risk bricking it? " This, or even if you just can't use GCP on them it would make a huge difference, and it's pretty clear that you can't. Why would you bother corrupting a low level sub-20 quality gem knowing that it'll never be optimal? IGN: Smegmazoid

" You are confusing Corrupted Gems and Vaal Skill gems. Vaal Skills are the new ultimate skills. They start at level 1 and work just like current gems as far as leveling. Using a Vaal Orb (currency) on any lvl 20 skill/support gem "corrupts" the gem which rolls a chance of increasing the max level. (possibly up to 23 max) Once you use a Vaal Orb on an item, it is locked with it's current stats. So you would only use it on a level 20 skill gem.. but you risk making it a max level 19 gem. You will probably use it for main skill anyway, so level up 2-4 of same skill till 20 you will probably hit them at the same time, the problem is you want them with quality or not? and then you corrupt them expecting to get +1lvl. Overall its expensive its either lvl up them till 20 two times to get 20q or use gcps on lvl 20 and try corrupting.

" The tooltip for the vaal gem still has corrupted, so does normal corrupted gems. So if there's something that would stop a gem from leveling it'd have to be more intuitive than that. |

The only problem with corrupting gems is that you can no longer use currency on them, aka GCP.
however, i believe that the vendor recipe to give you a 20% gem should still work... but would the result be corrupted? either way it's hard to know. Best case it will be advantageous to corrupt every skill gem because then if it's good you can level it up to 20 and vendor it with a GCP to get 20% worst case: you only corrupt gems that are already 20/20 IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)

You cannot USE currency on them, so levelins, selling to vendor etc should be okay.
Gcp recipe will probably work unless they also change the item to a different base, hell, I expect for recipes for corrupted only stuff to appear soon. The way I see it, lvl20 or Q20 gems will become cheaper, you corrupt it, it fails, so you sell it cheaper since you just ruined its maximum capacity. |
