Item rarity/quantity gem with burning/ignite
Hello guys
Since 1.0.6 patch, item rarity and item quantity can work with degenerating effects, while before that patch, iir and iiq gem would require a hit in order to trigger when mob died with linked skill/spell. I wonder, does that include burning damage caused by ignite too? Because my build is a burn flameblast, so would it be ok now to use iir and iiq gem on it? source: PoE wiki (Item rarity and item quantity) "Increases the rarity of items dropped by monsters killed using the linked skill. Since patch 1.0.6, the bonus from this gem applies to enemies killed by degeneration or damage over time effects." "Increases the quantity of items dropped by monsters killed by the supported skill. Since patch 1.0.6, the increased quantity from this gem applies also to enemies killed by degeneration or damage over time effects." Thanks in advance for your help. Yes. Burn/Ignite is a "degeneration or damage over time effect", so yes, IIR/IIQ will work on it now.
An interesting tidbit, since IIR/IIQ Gem is an "On-Hit" effect, and those don't work on Damage Over Time Effects, the way GGG got those Gems to work, is by applying a hidden buff to those DoT effects, that applies the IIR/IIQ to them.. At least, as far as I understand. :P EA IGN: We_Have_Monk_at_Home *Burnt out and waiting for either PoE1 League or new PoE2 Classes.* Last edited by Sheriff_K#3938 on Feb 28, 2014, 1:41:08 PM

" Indeed, i thought burning from righteous fire and burning caused by ignite were different, but they are both degenerating effects, so it works. How stupid of me :D " Or maybe they made iir and iiq apply whenever something is killed independently whether it came from direct hit or DoT. It sounds more right to me and this is how it should have been at first place, cause there are many interesting builds that depend on degen and dot type of damage. Thanks much Last edited by Drastic_#5109 on Feb 28, 2014, 1:47:09 PM

" That wouldn't work, as the Gem is Supporting the skill doing the killing, and the way DoT effects are coded, they can't have an On-Hit effect apply to them, like Penetration, so to allow for the IIR/IIQ Support Gems to work on them, they had to code in a hidden "Buff" that applied the IIR/IIQ Support's stats onto the degen/DoT for each type of DoT effect, internally.. It was in a GGG post explaining how they did it, I just don't fully remember the exact details. :) EA IGN: We_Have_Monk_at_Home
