Drawback from Corrupted Items, guessing
My realistical guess is that Corrupted Items will require something like 30% (or X%) increased attribute requirements.
Or, for every corrupted item or gem equipped, -3 to all attributes. Or somewhere in that range, -2 to -10 . Or -X specific attribute, depending on the corrupted item equipped. These speculations are realistic, it would make sense, and make strong crazy builds harder to get. Because the item is corrupted, you need more brain (intelligence), strength (courage, endurance, willpower), dexterity (tool handling), to actually use/utilize it. ______________ Another possibility, but non realistic (less sense/sanity), is something like, for every Corrupted Item equipped, character has -X armor, -Y evasion, and -Z energy shield . ______________ Yet, some other possibilities are increased level requirements, or decreased duration of charges, maybe 10% per corrupted item, or decreased duration of any buffs, or decreased resistances ______________________ Anyway the first guess is most realistic, and i believe that drawback will not be about making your character weaker, or crippled, instead it will just limit insane build posibilities, you will need to invest 3 to 4 more passive skill tree points into attributes, and you will need to wear proper Amulet to give you enough attributes needed. Can only hard-cast corrupted skill gems.
Enjoy. It's both elegant and solves the issue of hard-casting vs CoC/totems and other means of making hard-cast stupid in the current game-state. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I know what it is...

I think the down-side will be just like the Divine Orb. It can roll great mods or terrible ones.
I have had mostly bad experiences with Divine Orbs. Why would the Vaal Orb be any different? Chris shows us only good corrupted items. I am sure there can be badly corrupted items too. Look at that video. What does he have on his char? Two 6L, half a inventory of chaoses and a few exalts thrown in too. All good stuff. No bad stuff. |

Downside besides high cd is probably monsters dont drop loot or currency if killed by vaal skills.

I believe it has something to do with blood/life.
Think about the word "corrupted" - used in Nemesis league. Then think about the teaser pics and vids, displaying corrupted skills with a drop of blood on the skill icon. Maybe you take a bit of damage on use, using a corrupted skill/weapon? It makes sense in my head. Corrupted items/skills are more powerfull, at the price of hurting you a bit too. Aint being not usable until its charges up making it a big enough drawback?
i mean it takes 2 skill sets -one to charge the souls -one that contain vaal gem(cannot be used unless its charged up) So there are 2 drawbacks, Slots and time, aint that enough? ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

It's likely related to what the new leagues actually do. It probably has to be impactful in a way that you have no means of being able to easily counter it, eg. harder monsters, or a negative that has a long term effect, eg. severe item drop penalty. I always assumed using corrupted items would make it harder to fight Atziri. There's no reason for their not to be corrupted monsters as well that are more likely to spawn and/or are harder to fight against based on the number of corrupt items. This probably increases the likelihood of corrupted zones spawning in the first instance with corrupted monsters being affect by zone affixes.

Maybe it will be connected to new content, like the more corruption you have, the more invaded/ambushed you will be, but what the ambush and invasion are really?
Looking on about the 5# teaser, i see Fire, maybe fire type monsters will invade various areas. Nevermind. Ty guys for your ideas. :) I think corrupted cannot be anythong like corrupted blood, because imagine having 1% life leech from lightning damage, (corrupted Ammy on the teaser), and then having like 30life degen per second. The 1% cannot in any way make it for the big degeneration. So, as one guy above said, it can be probably that some corrupted items will have very weak uselles mods, and that is in itself enough of a drawback. Proud Crusader of Hardcore Leagues.
