Confused on Mana Reservation with Blood Magic

Hey,

My current character is an aura and totem specialist that I play with a friend. I plan on running 6 auras eventually but for now i'm only running 2 in merciless. However I just confused myself with calculations and I'd like to know how this works.

Take for instance a 60% reserve aura and a 100 life pool. 60hp are reserved.

I have Blood Magic and the Mortal Conviction node for 40% less mana reserved.
I also have crawled the web and with Mortal Conviction combined I've gotten a total of 91% (feel like I may have counted a 5% node twice, so lets just say 86%).

I thought I was doing great, and then I realized I didn't put my reduced mana gem into the calculation. This is where I became confused. A level 20 Reduced mana would put me at a total of 105% mana reduced. That would mean that I reduce my 60 point mana reserve by 63 points.

Soooo...that can't be right, I would end up with more mana than when it was reserved. What am I doing wrong with this calculation?

reduced mana reserved mods stack with each other
less mana reserved is multiplicative as well as mana cost multiplier from reduced mana gem

you confuse a ton ^^

so take an aura with 60% mana reservation

0.6 * 0.71 (lvl20 reduced mana) * 0.6 (mortal conviction) * 0.56 (from 46% reduced mana reserved from passives)
= 0.143136

PoE always rounds up, so you'll reserve 15% of your life with that 60% aura after all that.

That reduced mana gem is multiplicative should be somewhat clear ;) - and mortal conviction is "less" mana reserved. less/more is always multiplicative and "reduced/increased" is additive.

To really get a BUNCH of auras you can't use bloodmagic, period. You can get 5 within the mana pool. With EVERYTHING every node AND Alphas Howl unique head you get 60% auras down to using up 20% mana - so 5 fit (due to rounding errors you need a manapool with a 5 or 0 as last digit, or use 4 60% auras and 1 40%).
Then you can fit 2 or 3 in a Prism Guardian Unique shield, probably 2 because you'll want reduced mana gem. That's 7 or 8. You might fit 1 or 2 more if you go Low-Life with Energy-Shield - but I wouldn't recommend that.

Thanks, that helps explain it. I knew I was wrong, just couldn't see that it was additive vs. multiplicative tripping me up.

Preciate the help.

Couple of things:
-Path of Exile always rounds down
-RM is a separate calculation
-Reduced/Less Reserve is not a mutliplier
-46% Reduced Reserve would have been a *0.54 multiplier

PoE calculates the amount of Reduction you have, rounds that down, and subtracts it from the total. An example, 12% Reduced Reserve on a 60% Reserved Aura:
60 * 0.12 = 7.2% Reduction, rounds down to 7%
60 - 7 = 53% Reserved
The same can be accomplished with multipliers and rounding up: 60 * 0.88 = 52.8, round to 53%.

lv20 RM, 40% Less and 46% Reduced works out like so:

60 * 0.71 = 42.6, rounds to 42% Reserved

42 * 0.6 * 0.54 = 13.608 -> 14% Reserved

Actually, Path of exile always rounds down, EXCEPT for Mana Reserved on Aura Tooltips, that, is rounded up. Well, the way you calculated it, you're right, but that just adds an extra step... :S

Example: 16.8% Mana Reserved => 17% Mana Reserved

It adds an extra step, yes. It's also how the game itself calculates Reserves, which is really the only relevant bit. Path of Exile always rounds down. Players do not.
