Optimal Item Rarity %
I was wondering is there an Optimal amount of Item Rarity % where you start to notice better items dropping, sometimes you can have too much of a good thing as it were, also does character level factor into this as well. Did a search but only found item rarity mentioned for party play not for solo play. I have a Marauder with about 145% item rarity, is this plenty or do I need more to get the better drops.

Item rarity directly scales your chance to find things.
If you have +100% rarity, you'll get twice the magic, rare, and unique drops. If you have +200% rarity, you'll get three times the magic, rare, and unique drops. I have not heard anywhere that there's any kind of non-intuitive scaling in PoE like there was in D2 (if you didn't know, you needed something like 700% magic find to get 200% more uniques). In PoE, you just get what your stats say. Note that currency items have no rarity. You are no more likely to find Alch Orbs vs. Orbs of Chance with higher item rarity find items. Your only way to get more currency items is to increase your drop rate entirely (+ quantity item modifiers.) IGN Domination: Blindsight_Marauder, Blindsight_MF

" None that anyone is aware of. I believe the highest rarity mod is +50%. I think it spawns on every gearslot, (except rings?). Then you can get something like 50% from the support gem. As for sweet spots, you don't want to get a bunch of +rarity at the expense of +quantity. % for %, quantity is superior (as reflected by the much lower values for it on mods and gems). They also synergize very well. |

"WTF? really? I never heard about this for D2. Are you saying it's non-linear (1% may give 1%, but 300% may only give 200%), or just that it's scaled down? Either way it sounds very strange and have not heard about that. Can you post some sources? (I'd like to read more) Fresh cakes for all occasions.

" The math in D2 was confusing at times. I agree though I had a disturbing amount of MF in d2(don't remember the number but full charms and best gear) and it didn't do as much as I would hope. I did find a lot of stuff mind you. -Intel Core i5 2500K

Diminishing returns for MF in D2 is totally common knowledge (= Well at least for all the geeks who even care to look up info like that, he he. The higher the rarity of the item (as in magic, rare, unique), the more severe the diminishing returns. Even the official Arreat Summit contains this info and you'll find tons of it with precise formulaes in google.
Edit - I'm also pretty sure I saw at least one post from devs indicating that some system like that also works for item rarity and/or quantity in PoE. Last edited by nermind#6181 on Sep 17, 2011, 2:33:29 AM

If you have to look something up outside the game, I don't think it falls under "common knowledge" :p

" OK, I can't remember if I knew that and forgot, or if I just never knew that. "so it applies for only rare, set, and unique, but I suppose that was the main use of MF. Fresh cakes for all occasions.
