Hold Position Attack to Stop Movement

You hold whatever button you bound to hold attack to hold position while you attack. Either I'm really tired or that was really redundant.

Anyhow, would it be possible to make the hold position bind stop your movement when pressed?

For example, clicking far away to move, your character starts to move. The character will not stop until it gets to where you clicked even if you press your hold position bind. I've found that initiating an attack while using hold position will stop the character before they get there. Oftentimes I do not want to initiate an attack to stop position, I just want to stop position. Part of the reason is that going through a full attack animation takes up more time than simply stopping.

At the moment it can feel a bit clunky, like I'm fighting the controls rather than enjoying the controls. Allowing the shift button to stop you in your tracks would be a welcome addition in my book.

What about clicking?
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while, a great wind carries me across the sky.

Your mouse would already be over the target you want to attack next, not over the position you want to stop in.
Clicking works sort of, but it can cause some issues (which having hold position stop your movement fixes).

Sometimes clicking again isn't desired if you have a bunch of enemies around you. If you accidentally click on them you can attack them. You don't always want to attack every enemy you see right away, for various reasons. Clicking is not as accurate as just stopping via hold position.

I know it's rather cliche to say other ARPGs have hold positions which function this way. It is true though, from Sacred, Torchlight, Titan Quest, and others. I think they have this functionality because it makes intuitive and mechanical sense. More casually, it offers greater control.

I suppose the best solution would be to have an option for it to act in either way. Although I much prefer it simply stop the character whenever pressed.
It's a shame that when I mention this mechanic in global chat I only meet all the flames of hell. Like you've said, this is just too intuitive and convenient to not implement. I support this.
I was just wondering why hold position doesn't stop your movement the other day. I would like to see this feature.
You gotta love the ribbons. When they kill you they gift wrap you for the grim reaper. What other enemy is that thoughtful? - Alexdaemon
