New Permanent League: AVALON
Four month leagues are great, but having the characters dumped to Standard at the end of the league sucks(pardon my french). It would be great to have an alternative to Standard league to move our characters to, particularly a new league that has special characteristics that many players have been asking for.
AVALON: new permanent soft-core League (alternative to standard) 1- No IIR items or gems, No IIQ items or gems, increased global drop-rates* 2- Uniques can be retroactively nerfed (no legacy items) 3- High-end recipe for creating six-link items (should be worth around 3-4 exalted tops) 4- Only 1 percent experience penalty when dying on merciless. *note: increased drop-rate would still be less than a fully geared mf character in standard league, so for players who want the absolute highest mf possible, standard would be the way to go. On the other hand, players who want to focus on building strong and creative characters and still have pretty decent drop-rates will go for Avalon. Advantages of Avalon: 1- Minority of players who prefer things the way they are now, wont go into a hissy fit at the new changes because it wont affect them. 2- Ability to six-link at a reasonable cost is requested by the majority of players. A small but vocal minority oppose this(on the forum) because they already got the gear they want and now they just want to feel badass and superior at the expense of the majority of the player base who just want to have a good time playing this game. AVALON will allow players who want to experiment with six-link builds the ability to do so, while players who wish to grind for hundreds of hours to gather enough fuse orbs to six-link just one item are welcome to standard league! Final thoughts, if you have any doubt that AVALON will be a great hit, try starting it off as a four month league, then do a poll at the league's end to see if players would rather have this become a new permanent league as an alternative to standard. note: Hardcore could have a similar league with the same properties of AVALON. It would be called VALHALLA. Edit: As an Alternative to going fully permanent, AVALON could instead be a quasi-permanent league (1-2 years) as has been suggested further in this thread. Such a league will not suffer from the broken economy of standard since it will be reset every 1-2 years, while at the same allowing extensive end-game game-play. How I would like to type a whole response to how i think this is a terrible idea. I'll just say it's a terrible idea.

" I believe I mentioned something in my post about a small but vocal minority that whine about every proposed change that the majority of players want. I suppose this is exhibit A, no offence, |

I think it's a good idea for the future of this game. Unfortunately, I know many that would come back if you removed XP loss and made a Avalon league. If it gives people what they want then I day do it. Those are the people that buy a lot of micro transactions.

League where everything is given to you, the economy is in shambles, and the content is trivialized.
I mean, they can go ahead and make it, I won't play it though :D Multi-Demi Winner

" You mean a League where it is fun to play without gimping your character, economy that is in favor of the majority of the player base as opposed to dedicated mf farmers, and getting reasonable loot drops that in no way trivializes content since high end loot will still be hard to come by. (Note: See below my reply to your other post on the effect of iir and iiq removal in the economy). As for the masochists who prefer 1- A broken economy 2- gimping your character to find loot or being forced to play as summoner 3- playing on a server riddled with OP legacy gear that will make upcoming pvp unplayable on standard Why, worry not... You can still play on Standard! :) " Last edited by mouhanad#7735 on Feb 11, 2014, 6:48:12 AM

nah
also, hardcore can't be called Valhalla. You die and go to softcore. To many. that is not their ideal afterlife. Smoother than Smooth. Last edited by Moist#6523 on Feb 11, 2014, 7:55:25 AM

" Sorry, I play ladder, I prefer good economies. :) Perma leagues are... okay... just to test builds. If you want a perma league that will shower you in loot, I hope they make it and you can have fun there with the majority, because, we all know the majority always knows what is right! No way. I don't want to see the population split just to give casuals an instant gratification league.
Removing IIR/IIQ in favour is a good change- but that's the only one. I see no point in preventing legacy items. if you don't have the old strong version either way, in what way does someone else having the item negatively affect your gameplay? I can't think of a single answer that doesn't just boil down to pettiness and the recent trend in gaming of players feeling entitled to the very best stuff available. Having a recipe that creates 6 Links would be fine- but it should be on average more expensive then 6 linking the item with fusing orbs. 6 links aren't supposed to be for everyone....and frankly they aren't needed(you can complete any content in the game with a 5 link. The whole advantage in game design of the current exclusivity of 6 links is the very fact that they are exclusive- add a league where pretty much anyone who makes it to late game can afford them and that exclusivity dries up. Reducing the exp penalty is the clearest shift towards the modern breed of casual gamers with overinflated sense of entitlement. I miss the days when painful consequences to failures were the norm, rather then the current age where many players feel cheated when anything significant is taken away from them for their mistakes. Again, I realize you want a separate league- but frankly I see no reason to split the community to appease a portion of the community that wanted PoE to be like every other watered down handholding modern ARPG.
