Kowz Physical Ranger Build
Kowz Physical Ranger Build, 2/06/2013
Introduction
Spoiler
Hello everyone! This is my new version of my Physical Ranger build. I was rank 76 on default, 81st to hit level 80. This means that the build 'works', however, I want to go into some disclaimers before you proceed. I picked Ranger because I had a specific plan/idea that I wanted to execute. I was successful, but at the time not sure about the endgame viability. Here are some sad truths about my build: 1) Your damage will be low in comparison to some of the other great builds in PoE. 2) Very gear dependent. By this I mean you will need some stellar gear to compete with some of the other builds, but you will be capable of clearing content with mediocre gear. You will simply need great gear to compare to some of your fellows. Hopefully the utility and auras make your participation worth it for your buddies ;). If this has not dissuaded you then good on you, but please understand that I have stuck through the hard times because I love the fact that my character plays and feels like dozens of the bow-zons I made during my D2 days. I thrive off the fact that I am playing something familiar and enjoyable. My physical ranger shoots fasts, moves fast, and mows lawns. If that is up your alley then continue on! Note: I am not the best, or always right, etc.! I just love PoE and thought it is worth sharing my thought processes/ideas with the rest of you. Passive Skill Build Gems

Spoiler
Mana
*Mana will be a huge problem between ~15-55. I used two hybrid flasks, two mana flasks, and one quicksilver. If I was on hardcore I would use three hybrid, one emergency heal flasks, and one quicksilver. *You'll need about 400 mana to run your two armor auras effectively. The end goal is 600-700 mana which will give you about 200 spare mana after the three auras. *Once you start pumping out ~350+ DPS on your stat page, assuming you don't attack more than 2.5 times a second, you will be able to sustain split-shots with 6-7% mana leech. *Projectile weakness curse is necessary for mana leech. It gives 30% damage which means more leeching per hit, piercing for extra hits, and a higher chance to hit the enemy. Frenzy *This is your primary single target DPS ability. On top of this, it is critical to keep your charges capped to give your abilities faster cast/attack times. You primarily want to always kill the pack of mobs with split-shot first then finish the boss with Frenzy. *In merciless difficulty opt for the frenzy charge. The 7th charge is necessary for this build. Split-shot *This ability will be your primary killing ability. It not only clears packs of mobs quickly, but it is used to keep you alive. Later in the game, 50+ish, you will be able to get a full health bar in 1-2 shots on a full pack of mobs. Regen Totem *This totem is great for group play and for fights that are prolonged to the point of zero flask charges. It is a never ending "heal". *It can also tank hits for you and be used in clever ways, such as blocking door entrances. I like to put it in doorways and shoot over it. Mobs can't walk through it, but you can shoot over it. *Do not cast it without frenzy charges if you're fighting multiple enemies. Without the charges you will spend too much time casting and might die. *Some prefer brotem, aka, skeleton summoning spell totem over regen. I prefer regen because of its group use and my love of spectre ;). Raise Spectre *This ability is coupled with minion damage, health, and blind. The goal is for it to be a sponge, extra DPS, and a utility blind. The mobs raised will blind your enemies giving you and your party that extra edge survival wise. *Raising rare/legendary mobs will create the normal version of them without their awesome modifiers, but some mobs naturally do neat abilities like curses, summons, etc. Experiment and find them out. Gear and stats
Spoiler
I have already gone over the gems, but I will now go over the gear and stats you should aim for.
Stat Priority & Goals You want to eventually reach: 1) 12k< armor. 2) 75 all resist, including chaos. 3) 700< mana. 4) 3000< life. 5) 88%< chance to hit. With these goals in mind, your gear wants the following stats late-game, listed from highest priority to lowest: Resistances - 75/75/75 is a must! Try to get chaos out of the negative quickly, too. Health - You want at least 2k health end-game. Mana - You want over 650. Physical Damage - More physical damage means faster clearing. Attack Speed - More attack speed means faster clearing and easier healing via split-shot. Evasion Rating - More evasion means more armor. Accuracy - Always a bonus. You want to hit 88% chance to hit at lvl 70+. Flasks I personally like to use: 1 - Hybrid Flask w/ increased recovery speed & armor. 2 - Hybrid Flask w/ increased recorvery speed & armor. 3 - Granite Flask w/ armor/evasion rating & resistances. 4 - Utility resist flask(I have every element in my inventory, fire dispels burning, cold dispels frozen, lightning gives extra resist, chaos gives extra armor). 5 - Quicksilver flask w/ dispel frozen & increased speed. For anyone curious about what I use:

I'm replying so that I can return to this thread later. I'm currently lvl37 and I'm heading the same route as you passive- and skill wise. I'm running Split/fork/pierce atm tho, but maybe pierce is overkill if you run projectile weakness? which I also do.

I plan on using this build for my Ranger, but how do you recommend I level as this build? Could you possibly take your current build and cut it town to a 30 point version and a 60/70 point version in order to have an easier time leveling?

Hey! A few of you messaged me about a 30-50 point guide leading up to it. I said I would do it tonight, but decided to try and get to level 70 as quick as possible. I will post it tomorrow afternoon. Feel free to send me messages if you got questions! If I don't answer I a) was afk or b) am doing something that requires full attention, but otherwise I am always down to help anyone :).

Is this build viable in HC? because I'm level 13 and my build so far is the same as yours, I'm wondering if I should follow it for my hardcore ranger.

" You'd have to tackle it a tad differently than I did. The skill points would be the same, but you'd stack your favored stats a tiny bit more heavily toward resistances in merciless. The only skill point variations would be opting for earlier evasion/armor rating nodes before accuracy nodes, that and maybe heading south on the tree to get thick skin immediately before aiming for Greater Impact. You would also want to have a different flask setup, less mana flasks from 20-55 and a second granite flask in 50+. Leader of InHouseGaming. IGN: Kowz

Should I choose passive talent points for the first 2 bandit quests? or would grabbing something like +8% all resists a good idea?

Hmm its something wrong..
dps its realy weak and low.. low crit rate.. low mana, without all gems slots - proper items - ur mana drop so fast .... i cant find good point of this build and im kinda pissed off atm - dont even have half of needed gems no drop, no reward - and cant get proper items for it.. all champions (yellow) and bosses (oragnge) need to kite, drop mana very very fast.. franzy didnt help.. Split arrow without Fork is useles -better Rain of Arrow atm- .. dont know when i how it build can work but atm its very very hard to lvling my char and in every point in tree i dont see it is better. When i see Dualist, Witch Shadow or Maruder in action im pissed off.. need tons of arrow to kill normal mobs when they usuali 1-2 hit tem.. |

@ Dreedzik
I am having a similar issue, but it doesn't seem to be quite as bad as yours. I am currently in the mid 30s for my level and I currently only have the skills Split Arrow (Pierce Support), Frenzy (Increased speed and damage support), and Projectile Weakness. I also have raise specter, but do not have enough intel to equip it yet. I can kill things fine and at times I have to kite, but it seems compared to other classes, I just don't as much damage. I was running into mana issues, but I changed out 2 of my health flasks with hybrid, and that helped out a lot. Right now, I am sitting with 1 health (50% instant), 2 hybrid, and 2 mana.. I am finishing up act 3 atm, and some things take a bit to kill, but it inst to bad.. I am still enjoying it. If you curious, I streamed about an hour of my game play last night.. Might check it out and see if you can see anything that might help you out? http://www.twitch.tv/ugmrz/b/361816135 Domination League - Typeo_VonSpellsWorth
