Can't purchase points with Visa Gift Card?

I got a $25 Visa Gift Card for christmas and was trying to use it to buy $20 worth of points. The instructions that came with the card said to register it at vanillavisa.com to make internet purchases, which I did..but when I try and use it on the PoE website it says:

Is there any way to get this to work? I'm trying to throw money at you GGG but it's not letting me!

Gift cards just don't work online, even if they have visa or some other logo on them. Its a different process of paymeny. See those cards are debit, so what happens is it will charge 1$ to verify funds then process the payment. But since its not a normal card it will just lock that 1$ for 7 business days, iv had the trouble of doing this before.
