It would be better if it was compulsory. Possibly acting as some kind of level cap.
So, to achieve Level 10 you need to have completed a romance quest. Then for level 20, you need to complete another with a different race/sex. Such quests end with an unskippable cut-scene We can have a crafting system on a similar model. Put points in baking to create delicious treats. They have no combat use, but you need to have completed a full craft quest chain (Legend of the Five Bakers, for example) to advance beyond a certain level. Each craft skill should be incredibly detailed. The baking for example should include a challenging "has my dough been kneaded enough?" minigame Characters who really go nuts on the crafting/romance stuff should have access to special areas. |

No point in it really. But a thought comes to mind: put in the romance stuff and make it like the rest of the game. I mean filled with peril. One example would be to be able to get a kid and also get a divorce. And if you got both you pay alimony. And since your ex spouse is the property of Grinding Gear Games you just pay them using your credit card. Your ex spouse is happy, your kid is happy and the game developers are happy.

You mean to say there isn't any gay romance in Path of Exile? Because the title certainly implies otherwise.
