POE Map Farming Resource
After looking through a few threads and watching a few videos on farming maps I hadn't really found the information I had been looking for and decided I would do an experiment to find out how many maps drop per run, and what the variance of map level is to the map being run.
I collected 5 of each of the following lvl 71 maps : Strand : Arachnid Nest : Colonnade I chiseled each map to 20%, and then used an orb of alchemy on each map. Every map was run with the first set of prefixes and suffixes that rolled, meaning the maps item quantity was usually between 60% and 110%, with about 80% seeming to be the average. I am in Domination league, the maps were run solo, with no IIQ gear on. From the 15 maps, 34 maps dropped, giving us an average of about 2.25 maps dropped per run. The individual breakdown of maps dropped per run is as follows: 0 : xxx 1 : x 2 : xxxxx 3 : xxx 4 : 5 : xx 6 : x Two maps were dropped from opened chests during the 15 runs. The breakdown of map levels is as follows: 66 : xx 67 : xxxxxx 68 : xxxxx 69 : xxxxxxx 70 : xxx 71 : xxxx 72 : xxxxxx 73 : x A bit cleaner curve here, showing that about 1/3 of the maps were AT or ABOVE the level of the map, while 2/3 were BELOW the map level. Here are the maps that dropped during the 15 runs, as you'll see most were white, while some were unidentified and two were rare. Thery are listed in ascending order:

Here are the useful currencies that dropped during the 15 runs, there were of course many others that I didn't bother sorting, also many of the jewelers came from 6 socket items being vendored, and the chromatic orbs mostly came from RGB linked items being vendored:

Here are the three unique items found from the 15 runs:

And finally, the support gems I bothered to keep:

If anyone else cares to replicate the experiment and post the results here it would be fun to see with a bigger sample size what the drop rates look like. |

That's pretty cool man. The only thing different in my runs is I tend to drop more currency... I generally get 2 or the alch/chaos/fus combo per map that I run. However, I cull everything with a +quantity gem so that may be the difference.

Yeah that likely would make a difference, I wish +IIQ gems were available in domination league. I originally intended this to be a resource just to figure out how often maps drop and how many drop +/- the map level itself, though I kept a separate stash tab for everything I would normally keep just to see for myself what the rewards are for a sample size this big.

Maybe I should do a test with 76/77 lvl maps, I don't bother with 78's anymore, I'm still under 10 refunds in 70+ maps hosted.
I did however felt that map drops in lower level (< 75 lvl maps), and from what I've heard from players who play those maps. |

I would be interested Tinko, to see what the results look like in 76/77 maps.
What do you mean by being under 10 refunds in 70+ maps? |

" I've put more than 70 78 lvl maps in the map device, under 10 refunds till very this day. Refund = equal value of maps dropped inside, example: 78 lvl map, 77 + 75 lvl maps, 2x 76 lvl maps, etc. And in those "under 10 refunds" I've counted in drops that were more than a value of 78 lvl map, example: 2x 78 lvl map, 78 + 77 lvl map, etc. I've stopped hosting 78 lvl maps a month ago, running only 76 and 77. |

Ah, I understand now, so you're saying that you've got the same value of map back only 10 out of 70 times.
Seems as though the rate would be higher under 78 because of the chance to drop maps up to 2 levels above the current map. At 78 most maps will be below the current level of course. |

What I'd like to see is a similar study done with groups of 6 to see what difference party size has on map drop rate.
