What is the purpose of Empower and Enhance?

Empower and Enhance both needs 1,439,190,228 exp to get to level 3 which is 10 times to a normal gem(compared to Faster Attacks: 146,266,188). Why to make a mechanism and make it so hard to gain(reminiscent of Shavronne's story)?

I've found an Empower and sold it for 3 chaos after realizing I would have no chance to level it up(As a casual player I do not even self level-up my gems to lvl 20). A fully leveled Empower may cost 10 ex(10x exp than normal lvl 20 gems which cost 1 ex). Should I pay that much money on something I only want to "try" with my Arctic Armor?

Enhance is even more ridiculous. Not a single seller who sells a fully leveled one on poe.xyz.is:

As I remember someone has stated that a fully leveled normal gem may take 200 hours of gameplay. Then a fully leveled Enhance may take 2000 hours(1000 if 20% quality) of gameplay? Now it's 35 days since Enhance was introduced in 1.0.1, which is roughly 840 hours. No matter it happens... It is 104 days since Empower was introduced in 0.11.5(roughly 104 days=2496 hours).

Finally, what is the purpose of these "troll" gems? I think they are partly an in-game probe of GGG to test the gaming intensity of elite/professional players/groups. I also think their exp requirement would be greatly reduced in the future.

It's plenty feasible to get Empower to level 2. Socket it into a +1 to gems item and your Empower is already giving +2 to gems. Together with the item modifier that's +3 to gems. If your skill is actually something that has good synergy with empower then it makes sense for you to get an item with +2 to specific gems as well. +5 vs +6, it's not that big of a deal except in specific cases, you can do plenty well with +5.

Much like purity of fire/lightning/ice, enhance and empower are gimmicks introduced by GGG to pretend that they are releasing content

I have a +3 lightning skill wand. Sadly cannot do with Empower + Reduced Duration + Faster Casting + Lightning Warp. (Even it can do I cannot afford the mana cost on my sporker)

they are overpowered thats why it takes so long

pacience -.- is not like you are grinding TO LVL IT, it gain lvls as you grind so don´t QQ if you don´t like it then don´t use it, but it is there for people who do. is like saying there is no point for maps



because you will never get to the endgame content yourself

No need to do myself. e.g. I can just play 200 hours and sell all my lvl 20 gems to buy an Empower gem :)

No need that pride either when there is maths and markets...

You can just carry it around in the second weapon slot. You'll get there.
