Where's "Whirlwind"?

Only been playing the game for a few days now and.... ya it's pretty much gonna take over my life! However... I was hoping to play some sort of "Whirldwind" build using a 2h. The closest thing i could seem to find is Whirling Blades which is not exacty what i had in mind... Any word if a skill gem is being added to cater to those D2 whirlwind barbs?
Sweep and Leap Slam for mobility :D

Like, with faster casting support/faster attacks.

still not what i was looking for... I wanna be able to spin around while moving as long as my mana will allow it
What a shame, yeah the literal copy of that skill does not exist in this game. But maybe there will be other playstyles you'll enjoy.

Your best bet would be hoping for the new skills introduced with the Open Beta. No guarantee there'll be a WW-like, but they will be adding skills over the course of the OB.


And since skills are simply gems, they can basically add some whenever they feel like it - they're not bound to any sort of arbitrary system (like skill trees, which would have to be rebuilt if a new skill was introduced).

Oh i have been enjoying playing a shadow using flicker strike and lightning strike with Blood rage. Looking for an alternative to LS though because of the strength requirements at higher lvls on the gem. EK knives seem decent but because it is a "spell"... it wont benefit from my phys damage. Well i really hope they add some sort of whirlwind ability to the game. I would instantly create a marauder THAT DAY!

Marauder? What about a witch with a two-hand maul bigger than herself whirling around?

It is a physical spell
What this means is that EK's DPS is affected by:
- %Cast speed nodes as well as %cast speed mods on gear
- %Spell damage nodes as well as %spell damage mods on gear
- %Projectile damage nodes
- %Spell critical chance/multiplier nodes + Global Critical Chance mods on gear
- %Increased Physical damage mods on non-weapon gear
- %Increased elemental damage nodes + %cold damage/%fire damage mods on gear (slightly)

It is NOT affected by:
- %Increased Physical Damage mods on Weapons
- Flat physical damage mods (+1-4, etc) on gear
- %Increased physical damage with one-handed weapons/daggers/etc. nodes
- %Increased melee physical damage
- Facebreaker's %increased unarmed physical damage
- %attack speed nodes/mods on gear
- %increased elemental damage with weapons nodes/mods


and classes/roles aren't exactly defined in the same way they are in other games. I actually would like to try the witch EK build that has high str/life/armour and eldrich battery.

Like the support gem Iron Will linked to Etheral Knives would make it so your STR would benefit the skill.

This is obviously one of the big requests.

I remain ambivalent.

Whirlwind in D2 was so ubiquitous it basically made non-WW barbarians seem inefficient and not worth playing. It was, to my memory, one of the first 'cookie cutter' builds in any ARPG -- not as if D1 had skills to start with, although I suppose you could say the KSOH/obzod/GPOW set up was pretty cookie cutter.

Anyway, the lack of a mobile, high damage but relatively slow AoE attack skill in PoE is glaring but not entirely crippling. You don't see Marauders suffering for a lack of one. They find other ways.

BUT on the other hand, I'd love to see how GGG approach this request with their penchant for relatively original skills. I would be disappointed if they took the easy way out and just implemented a 'whirlwind' like skill. I imagine some sort of support gem that turns stationary attack melee-range skills into mobile ones, while amazingly ambitious, would be a possible solution much more suited to PoE.

Time shall tell, either way.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

That's the only reason im keeping clear of it. I'm running a tweaked build of the Build of the week #11 but would like to replace LS with a Dex aoe. EK knives seeming to be the only one available atm with daggers.
