Dupe & Cheat Preventions

I think devs have learned how to avoid avoid alot of cheats since diablo2. It is a question of how much you want the client to do without server acknowledgement, obviously a performance question.
Also, as I heard there were both legal issues with changing the diablo2 source, aswell as technincal due to how the game was coded - Both made it hard for Blizzard to fix duping.

I think the devs have so much love for this game that serious cheats wont exist for long without their knowledge and a quick fix.
If the game becomes popular there are a couple of things which will happen guaranteed.

You will see cheats and exploits in the game, it is unavoidable. Hopefully GGG can keep the impact of it very small.

You will see spam from goldselling sites(or "currency sites" in a PoE context) advertising stacks of currency for so and so USD/euro price.

Finally you will see the quality and maturity of the forum go down by alot. Considering it's a free game you will have people downloading it, not liking it and then feel the need for some reason to start a ruckus on the forum. And endless complaing in an obnoxius fashion about PvP and skill/balance.

But looking at it from the bright side. When these things start happening we can be pretty sure the game will have nice future since it just shows that it has become a popular game.
I honestly think that in Diablo 3 the mugs who buy gold and items from third party sellers generate the market for item duping and gold farming.

I predict that there will not be the same level of professional cheating.

This game is less (Regulated)RNG drop dependent like D3 where your gear is the limitation of ability. Here your gems + build + Player skill have a larger impact than gear alone. Gear is still important but it's not as critical if you get the Gem+Build right.

I plan on going 100% self found in PoE. If I get a top drop and it's not for me I will make a build for it... That's what I am looking forward to.
As far as im aware, all item creation mechanics are server side only, which means youll have to trick the servers into creating the item for you. Possible, but unlikely since from what I can tell from some minor ramwalking and disassembling, it is never exposed to the client. I could be wrong but from years of ripping apart video games to see what I can do, they seem to have a pretty solid foundation for not allowing dupes.

The main thing that gets abused in multiplayer games to "cheat" is how much you trust the client to not lie. When it comes to items GGG seems to trust the client not at all, and for most other things very little.

duping won't be a problem unless via bug.
However bots will, with free model there is no leash for them outside of banning them faster then thay can create accounts...

yup dupe items, xfer to mule account and item safe. only dupe account is deleted
The only concern I really have are the people who will be using script programs for PvP. Hopefully there is something in place to prevent scripting but I haven't seen it in the client. Hopefully it is on the server side.

Quite the optimist there.

Botting will be a problem. Third-party currency sales sites will spring forth from botting, and also be a problem. FFA loot — which I support when in the company of human beings — might be a problem, as the bots might be "ninjabots" who follow players and scoop up loot as soon as the timers expire.

One hopes GGG would have enough sense to build a ninjabot of their own and actively test how it performs under the current loot timers in a part of 3-5 humans. If it's able to make any substantial profit, the loot timers might need to be adjusted — keeping botting unprofitable is a more important goal than making loot feel "cutthroat" between players.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

either way botting or duping most people will just put stuff on mule account asap and not worry about it.
Im positive GGG can trace an item being traded from charachter to charachter.
