Poison Arrow with Fork / Pierce
Hi, couple questions...
If you use Fork with Poison Arrow, do the Clouds do less damage, or just the initial hits? If you use Pierce with Poison Arrow, does it create a cloud at every enemy it hits? Thanks! Edit: Well I did just go to youtube and searched, and found a video of someone using PA with Pierce/Multiple Projectiles and it threw down clouds everywhere, so I suppose that answers my question about Piercing. Another question though. As with my question about fork, when you use multiple projectiles, do the poison clouds get reduced chaos damage? One more question, hoping someone can answer this one... if you use Added Chaos support gem on poison arrow, does that make the cloud dot damage go up? Sorry to ask so much about it... I just find poison cloud really fun to use, and was hoping to learn more about it so I know how to support it and what gems to get in OB. Last edited by PhreEkGarden#7624 on Jan 20, 2013, 8:31:14 PM

Fork, LMP/GMP, and Added Chaos Damage only affect the actual projectile (arrow) damage. It has no effect on the actual DoT poison clouds.

Not sure why this is in the ranger specific forum. ^^
Almost nothing affects the DOT aspect of Poison Arrow. The particle effect of Poison Arrow is also very graphics card intensive, so if you lay down several clouds with each attack, and attack several times a second, you can very easily overwhelm even a good video card, so be wary. " Mmm, sorry... I suppose it's not Ranger specific. I was loving poison arrow, but the more I level up... the more it just seems like a waste of time to use, since you can't really up the damage for the cloud effect. Does it become pretty pointless later on? I was hoping to use Poison Arrow with LMP/Pierce... just doesn't seem as good as I thought it would be. Seems like Split Arrow with Fork/Pierce or something just ends up being way better. |

Poison arrow is a phenomenal single target skill, and makes killing bosses all the way up to merciless a joke. As an AoE though, it's quite lackluster.
I leveled a character all the way to 64 with the restriction of ONLY using poison arrow as both single target and AoE, and what I found was that it wasn't terrible, but once you start linking it to gems like LMP/GMP and chain, the fact that it's range doesn't go past where you click really hinders it's ability to be used to effectively kill large groups of mobs quickly. Couple that with the fact that the poison cloud's damage scaling falls off hard around the end of Cruel and your good initial impression from its early power turns into a bad taste on your mouth. Hmm thanks for the reply. I was just doing the Vaal Ruins with it and it was working really effectively.
This video shows that it seems to work pretty well with pierce, since it just drops clouds everywhere. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4i8pIPOljs I suppose there's no reason to worry about it. I'll level up with it since it's fun... if it falls off later on I'll just change it out... not really a big deal. Last edited by PhreEkGarden#7624 on Jan 21, 2013, 1:30:42 PM

" I've been using PA with LMP/Fork or Pierce(I think I like pierce more) for a little while now... dont have chain so can't test that. It seems to be working really well actually. I just click past the mobs so it forks off them instead of hitting the ground, and puts poison everywhere. I think in OB I'm going to get Burning arrow first obviously as a Ranger, then my next two questions I'm going to get 2 Poison Arrow's. So I can have PA with Faster Proj for single target, and PA with LMP/Fork for AoE. Last edited by PhreEkGarden#7624 on Jan 22, 2013, 5:55:23 AM

Mmm, I challenge you to replace PA with another skill while using the exact same setup, and see if you still think it works well once you have a few different comparisons.
When you start to get mobs that can kill you from off-screen (a pack of goatmen leaping on you for example) you will begin to appreciate how worthless PA is compared to other skills that do the same damage but don't have the annoying range cap. Using PA is like shooting yourself in the foot. You may still be able to run, but you're making it harder for no gain. ^^ In-Game-Name: Lezli

" Are you sure about that ? ADded Chaos Damage with Quality gets % bonus to chaos dmg, i think that might affect the clouds |

" False. It only adds damage to actual projectile damage. The only passive that would actively affect PA's poison cloud is skill duration passives. For Ranger build tips, tactics, and critiques, visit this thread:
