Cosmetic versus unique/rare looks?

Will good looks of armour and weapons come only from cosmetic purchases?
Or will high-level rare and unique items have awesome looks themselves?

The former is acceptable for low and medium levels of items (maybe even until 80) but the latter will take away from the fun of finding end game loot.
What will be the case if anyone knows?

All armour and weapons, outside from cosmetic purchases, are intended to look like utter trash.

Although honestly? None of that is potentially true. We don't know the looks of all the items, and it's a stated goal to change some of them.

You may still find base gear that you like. I know I have.

Not to mention they have a ten year plan with PoE, and plan on adding a new act every 9 - 12 months or so. If people want good looking armor, they'll get it sooner or later.

Meh the armor we have at the moment fits the style of the game pretty well, after all we're playing some exiled dirtbag I don't want to look like a unicorn.

For the sake of laughs, I hope GGG implements cosmetic purchases for the holidays when available.

I'd like to have a santa hat override for my helmet, and a candy cane for a wand. Oh oh, and my kiwi wants a santa hat too! :D

I'd assume the further we go (let's say act 4 and beyond), the setting will become more Royal etc I assume. (Because the 3rd is already placed in a city like setting) So there's better looking gear to be expected there.

The theme of the game is dark though, so I wouldn't put up much hope in that regard. If you want to look like a circusfreak, better off playing some cheap chinese MMO.

As i understand the armor will be changed in Open beta and many armors will be deleted but new will be added with new looks etc...
