Charging for expansions?

Has Grinding Gear Games clearly and without room for interpretation said anywhere that expansions will be free for everyone to download and play?

(I have seen a couple of places where it could be inferred but I haven't seen a clear, definitive declaration that expansions will be free. I want to know before getting involved with this community.)

Path of Exile is completely free to download and play. We never intend to charge for content or access to the released game, but we are happy to offer early Beta access for those who support us during this important time. In order to fund the development and continued expansion of Path of Exile, we offer a range of ethical microtransactions that allow you to distinguish yourself in the world of Wraeclast without receiving any gameplay advantage. We are completely opposed to the concept of “pay2win”.

Expansions would be considered content, and directly states that supporter money funded by the community will help with the development of the continued expansion for Path of Exile.
Kripparrian was playing live a couple weeks ago while the developers of PoE were taking online questions. The developers stated that they are afraid of expansions because it would leave your gear worthless like with every WOW expansion. All that work for nothing, and your gear is worthless.

The developers went on to say that they planned a different route to adding on to the game. The developers were saying that they were looking into more new maps every week or bi-weekly that players could run for better gear and such. Yes, there are maps now in the game, but from what the developers were saying they were going to add even more to help make this game endless. They also stated that there would be a 4th act to be released just after the actual release of the game.

So between all the new maps from the yet unseen 4th act and just newly made weekly maps from Act 3 it would lead to endless play with any expansion needed.

Thus they have no plans for an expansion. The developers also added that dropping in a new class of character would be easier this way and that it would be a more seem less integration into the game (as opposed to WOW, where you have to now build a new starting area just to integrate the new class into the game).
Welcome back my friends to the GAME that never ends. Were so glad you can attend. Come Inside! Come Inside! (my spin-off on the classic by Emerson, Lake & Palmer)

Yeah, I saw this. Yes, expansions are content but in this context, I think they are referring to access to the base game content. Arguably, the following sentence could have the same intended meaning:

The Path of Exile base game is completely free to download and play. We never intend to charge for base game content or access to the released base game, but we are happy to offer early Beta access for those who support us during this important time.

That is the way I read it anyway. My point: this is subject to interpretation. I see what you're saying. . .I really do. However, I'm wanting to know if there has been a clear and unquestionable indication that expansions will be 100% free.

Can you link to that information? Because here, at the very bottom is the September 2010 press release that shows that expansions are planned. Things might have changed. . .you could totally be correct. However, with posted information on the GGG website saying one thing and with no official posted indication of a change, I am not so sure about your post.

I'm not sure how this can be misinterpreted. It states that they will never charge for content OR for access to the released game.

GGG has been pretty adamant in stating that anything paid for this game is going to be cosmetic/quality of life. Expansions = content.

I covered this above. If you're having trouble finding it, PM me and I will send you what I posted.

Yes, expansions are content. We agree there. However, I am looking for a statement or release from GGG that says without any question that expansions are free. I don't see that and I'm not convinced that the statement above is proof of that. You take it on faith that your interpretation of that (and other) statements from GGG are correct. I don't see it the same way.

So, does anyone have a link to something definitive and clear?

I viewed your reply, you decided to write your own sentence and play with words, I linked you proof...you still don't believe...it sounds as though you don't want to.

It also specifically states in what I linked you that they will fund the continued expansion of Path of Exile by ethical microtransactions...again...stating that they won't charge.

What more do you want?
Don't take our word for it? Pay $10 and see for yourself what this game is all about, or do your own research by reading or listening to videos about what the developers have to say. It does not take long to figure out that they are not out to get you.

The devs simply wanted to make a fun game that is free to play. They have always emphasized that the game will never be pay to win and as was stated earlier many times, they will not charge for content either. There is no secret hidden message found through decoding their words, they mean what they say.

As for the community, this is the best community that I have ever seen in game. I say give it a shot and see for yourself. To do this you can pay 10$ now or even wait about 15 days for the game to be COMPLETELY FREE TO PLAY. If you don't like it well it was only $10 or a few hours of wasted time, but if you do like as much as we all do... well then welcome to Wraeclast, exile, its going to be awesome. What have you got to lose?

Well, there won't be expansions as you call it, there will simply be more acts and features added, and they are not packed together. The Plan was (is?) to release a new act each 9-12 months. None of that will ever cost anything.
I can't give you a quote since I remember hearing it over and over in interviews and such, and I can't remember where.
