NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800 GT or ATI Radeon™ X1950 Pro are the minimum so anything above that for the price you can manage

Wait for next week's Cyber Monday sales, you will see a lot of heavy discounts on video cards.
GTX 560 Ti is the entry level for having smooth party play in this game. Though I've heard from people who still have problems with those. I think there might be some GTX 660 Ti coming down to $120, but you will be looking at getting the very basic video card you need for this game with only a $100 budget. I would not recommend Radeons over the slightly more expensive GeForces right now. This game has better performance with GeForce GPUs, and there are plenty of unexplained driver misconfigurations which AMD/ATI like to add to their updates. Drivers have always been an issue with the ATI brand, sadly. Don't base your purchase solely from benchmarks and these price charts, the prices will all be changing next week, and you should just use this information as a guide to understanding how the model numbers translate to performance. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU12/459 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2013-vga-gpgpu/06-Crysis-2-DirectX-9-C-Extreme,2948.html You need Shader Model 4.0 hardware to play this game. What is Shader Model 4.0 support? Generally the video card will say "DirectX 10 capable", and not get in to the technical specifications. Anything better, like a DirectX 11 compatible card will support the shader model. Shaders are a name for the programs which the game runs on the video card in order to display a bunch of visual effects. Almost every boss monster and skill comes with new combinations of "Shaders" so the speed at which these effects are done is very noticeable to the player. "Stream Processors" or "Shader units" etc are names for the hardware which runs the Shader programs, the more the better. 1GB or 2GB video memory (GDDR5 or VRAM) is fine, more can't hurt. This is what textures load into and display from, everything in games use detailed textures, but the game settings can be tuned to work on tight budget hardware. 1GB dedicated VRAM can display PoE in full detail without problems. You will need the power connectors from your power supply (PSU) to run the new card, and the wattage of your PSU must be adequate. |

Thank you for the very informative post. I will definitely do some bargain hunting within the week as it seems to be a decent time to buy in.
