Unidentified item quality increase

Maybe, it (AS/BW) is meant to be applied after identifying the item. IDK.

Well it makes sense to do this, so many rares you get turn out to be vendor trash when you ID them that even if it only costs you 4 stones/scraps to make it 20% quality they will most likely be wasted. Much better just to use them on things you actually know are worth upgrading.

Just seems pointless to change it imo.

On the other hand, whats the difference from the item's view? Nothing: a yellow piece is a rare one, no matter if identified or not, no matter if useful or not. So, in any case, the quality improvements are worth 1% on them.

This is more or less my view.

The idea we can improve unidentified items seems a little strange: if we don't know what something is, how do we know how to improve it?

By extension, the idea that we should be able to improve unknown stuff more than known stuff is a little farcical .
There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013
It wasn't so much as to upgrade every rare you find. But say you find a rare (an item that a character of yours could potentially use) with sockets/links/colors that you perfer, you could 'waste' your 4 AS/BW (again, potentially useful item) on said unidentified rare. If it is trash compared to what you were planning on replacing then thats the gamble. But, if it is better than what you currently use, it was also a gamble you won.

Just to say again, I think my idea now is not so good b/c of alch orb value. I am just trying to make sure people dont get the impression that now every unidentified rare should be worth upgrading. But that the 1/50 rares you come across may be potentially useful and now you have a way to 'gamble' instead of finding the good rare then spending 20 AS/BWs on it.

EDIT: Thought some more.. I can see why they want you to spend 20 on rares. So instead of 5% how about matching the amount a blue costs to upgrade..?

Congrats Chris & others for cashing out! I don't blame you. I'll be saving money now... unless I start making a lot more. Can't wait to see if you guys start a new studio in six years! RIP GGG

Its even more simple: if you grab a rare with 'the right' socket layout - lets say a 5linked - then you want it to be good, or at least useful enough:

Id' it, think about what you get, and if it doesnt suit your needs, reroll it with a Chaos orb or a Scouring/Alch combination - thats how crafting works here... ^^
