"Life Per Hit" vs "Life Leech"
At what level do you guys usually switch from Life Per Hit gem to Life Leech Gem?

When you have enough life so that the percentage actually outnumbers the life on hit mechanic.
It also depends on what skill you use it, I believe, But i haven't calculated the numbers to check. Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind.

I think you have to do around 500dmg at max gem levels for life leech to be better.
I was just wondering what level most people switched. |

I don't usually bother with life on hit for some reason. Easier to get higher amounts of life leech together - Passives, gear, skills, etc.

Life on hit and life leach are different.
Life on hit applies instantly, while life leach regenerates life over a period of time. Life leach scales better with damage, since the amount leached is based on your physical damage. However, life on hit gives you something very valuable: instant healing. One of my favorite setups is cleave + life on hit, or sweep + life on hit. With good positioning you can do a lot. On my 67 duelist I can tank huge packs of magic monsters simply because of the combined life leached from my gear, and the life on hit. Life on hit has kept me alive many times against flicker striking monsters, as well. I think it's up to the ability. Life leach seems to work better with high damage skills, while life on hit is perfect for skills that have a large AoE, or are able to affect an AoE rapidly(like cleave, life on hit, and faster attacks). |

Heal spell recipe
Ingredients required: 2x Sparkling Claw (only requires 44 int and delivers 15 life per hit) 1x Whirling Blades gem A free pair of alternate weapon slots (accessible via 'x' key) A pack of mobs - the more the merrier. Directions: Hit 'x' switching away from your main weapon(s) to the claws. Whirling Blade through the pack of mobs (healing 30 life for each mob WB hits). Whirling Blade back through the pack of mobs (bunch more life). Hit 'x' and go back to normal fighting. Optional spice: Add cold and fire damage to claws to soften up lunch while healing. Pile on more life on hit bonuses from other pieces of equipment. Add a life on hit support gem to the Whirling Blades. Drop a freeze mine at each end of your Whirling Blades pass, trigger when done. Caution: Too much abuse of this recipe may result in desync with slower connections! -------------------- The above is probably the only practical use of claws with Duelist build. Intelligence requirements are low enough to meet easily with equipment. PS: it's also the only practical use for the freeze mine I've ever found! "Dont think you understand the mechanic of LL... its a %of your damage retunred as life not a % of your life ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

Yeah, Completely my mistake. I knew that (once, at least) but wrote life instead for some reason.
Indeed, When you have enough DAMAGE to outweigh the fixed number off life on hit. Even then, you would have to consider if the time it takes leech to apply works out better for you rather than the immediate nature of life on hit. You can also consider Vaal Pact at that point ;) Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind. In game name is Kaosu and/or ChaosBlade. Last edited by ransagy#7315 on Jan 5, 2013, 6:01:13 PM

Always thought you want LL if you go Phy and Life on hit if you're Elemental.

Could make sense if most monsters have more elemental damage resists than armor or such. So you have less effective damage to rely on and might be better off using the fixed rate.
