getting EXACTLY what you want when you want it, sounds like a great idea in the short term...but in the long term is the game ruiner because it will take the joy out of farming.

Why do you think you get EXACTLY what you want with my suggestion? Where does that come from? If your filter is to detailed adjusted, it may happen that NO ONE posts an item of interest! The items on sale will be the same as now. The difference is, that you don't have to spend hours browsing over items in the tradechat, because you will only see the items that have the stats you want. If there is no items with the stats you want, your trade-chat stays clean (because everything is filtered out).

(1) if they were to isolate it to a zone, it wouldnt create much of a server issue.

(2) the best thing about a market system is that yes, the players are forced to go afk and can do so in their sleep.

it was a nice plus..

the bad thing about an auction house is that it floods the market with TOO much stuff and eventually trivializes most items...

good thing about a market system is that there is no posting to an auction house, so if you want to sell something, you have to be (3) online...if youre offline, then your items are removed from the pool of merchants (unlike an auction house)

1) It will. The server has to keep a useless connection open. It doesn't mind where in which instance it is. It's a waste.

2) Why would you ever want players to NOT play? Worse, not playing and still wasting server resources?
Also there are millions of things better to do than leaving the PC idling absurdly. One of them is shutting it off. You know, to save money in your electrical bill and such.

3) The thing is, you are NOT online, your PC is. Subtle, but it makes all the difference.
An AFK player in the marketplace is worse for everyone than an offline player with things in an AH, while accomplishing the same objectives.
And if removing offliners' items from the pool would make a sufficient reason, an AH can hide your offers when you log off. Same objective accomplished, but with a lot less resources wasted for everyone.
