GPU temperature goes to 100c screen blank and comp frozen

After the last patch game crashes every half an hour
the problem is that my computer gets overheated
i tried other games with even more demanding graphics and I play on max settings without a problem.
I even tried lowering the resolution even though I have a great graphics card Nvidia GTX 460 1gb. I don't know why is this happening, because I never had problems with POE before, pls fix
because my computer gets frozen, the screen goes blank and I have to restart, God forbid everything goes to ....and...

3 years ago I think
but every three months I reinstall it and clean my fans plus I play all other games withput a problem with even better graphics
So the warranty is over (most cards have 2-3 years)?...
It's not about games but the fact that the temperature of your card should not exceed 80°C even under the stress test (in fact it should be around 70-80°C). At 99°C the overheat protection should be activated.
PoE can not overload your card better than stress test.

so I decided to open my case and look
disconnected the graph card entirely
and cleaned it, it was so fucked up with dust, all black and in in balls
now the result=
temperature decreased from 97 degrees to 47c
so my recommendation to all, clean yr case thoroughly on a regular base:D
I personally don't believe that your temp of 47ºC was under the same load as it was when it was under the 97ºC load. 47º is near-idle temperature, not something you'd get from a load unless you had water cooling.
I assume it either wasn't as stressing, or not a long-enough duration.

Regarding heat, my card will get up to 103ºC on a stress test (heaven benchmark), goes a bit past 90 in some games, but seems to stay below 69-72 when playing PoE (despite the fact that it doesn't cap the framerate or run the game that smoothly; certainly quite problematic). Some cards tolerate heat more than others, although it would be nice if I could set throttling at temperatures lower than 100º, because I can only assume it can't be good for the card.

Ambient temperature of the room plays a big part and the total airflow through the case...more than capable to get 47ºC playing the game on max settings.
Which is about what i get currently playing, no game has had me above 60ºC not even benchmarking with Unigine Haven or Valley at the max.

that's really weird, is your cpu limiting the frame rate? you have water cooling? what results you get from running the benchmarks? do you have your fan speed/temperature setting set up in a way that it speeds up in lower temperatures? temperatures up to 90°C are normal when doing benchmark tests.

i've tried vsync on and off in PoE doesn't make an appreciable difference, stock cooling on the GPU, fan get's above normal RPMs at 50ºC but not full speed.

Unigine haven with vsync off(about 55ºC give or take a few either way)

Spoiler

Ungine Haven with Vsync on

Spoiler

The only difference between the 2 being the low end of the FPS which bombed on transition between some sceens(with the vsync off)...the average is pretty close to what it gets on almost all the test.

World of tanks runs hotter than PoE and it's in the low 50's

-----------[Edit]------------

The one with Vsync on above is false...must have deleted the result a while back.
Here is the result with Vsync on(42ºC btw) seems that it is set to limit the fps at 30 and i can't find an option to change it.

Spoiler

Tested again with vsync off, and the results were better than the previous temp never went above 50ºC...then again the previous tests were done during summer.

looks like something is limiting your framerate. and it's definitely not the i5 processor.

you get some framerates in the 60's when playing world of tanks? try using fraps.
