We have no idea how long a character's data is in the system. After deletion, does the character immediately get deleted from their data files? If so, there would be no way to restore that character (due to people not knowing the EXACT stats, names, etc. of the items they were wearing). If we introduced a bug in a patch where say casting Grace Aura instantly killed you, we would react quickly to fix it and then restore the characters. These exceptions are extremely rare and can only occur in situations where we screwed up over a short timeframe in a way that can be tracked perfectly to restore exactly the right people. If we're doing our job properly, this type of bug would never hit the live realm and no such measure would ever be needed. I absolutely hate the idea of restoring characters. Life is full of one offs. This was a very extreme bug and with the current manpower they were able to fix it. Something is better than nothing at all. If they went restoring all chars in HC for any reason, how much manpower,resources will be used up on that instead of adding to the game? Where do you set the line? There are players that died because of their own ISP or their PC crashing, not paying attention and there are many things that are difficult to verify where the blame lies with. This was a difficult decision for Chris and I believe it was the correct one, but as per life, there is no pleasing some people. Good grief at the flames O_o If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG. Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif.
