Are my computer specs bad?
|
The only way I can play path of exile is on the lowest settings with 800x600 resolution. I tried going to the resolutions right above it with every other setting on lowest but every time I would my graphics card would crash after 1-2 hours. Are my computer specs really that bad already..? When I have did higher resolution the game still ran really smooth no problems at all other than graphics card eventually crashing from overheating or something lmao...

I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, so I can't answer in relation to it.
However your system specs were good about 6 or 7 years ago; if my memory serves me correctly :| |

I think it's not your PC. Look my system specs (in the signature). They are lower then your and I play fine with 1360x768 on minimum. Do this happen with other games with high resource requirments? Сheck your video card for overheating. What kind of crash do you get?
And what sound card do you have? Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. Last edited by Ekalindorskii#4804 on Dec 20, 2012, 10:41:26 AM

I am pretty sure it has something to do with the graphics card. Windows error message even says something like "video card has crashed". I have a thing to test temperatures also and I think it was higher than normal last time it happened.
This has never happened on another game. I don't care much for graphics so I always play with lowest graphic settings and my normal monitor resolution for games. I also do not like many games so its not like I have tested it on many. I play heroes of newerth with default settings perfectly no problems. I have played starcraft 2, diablo 3, and heroes of newerth without problems in normal resolution. I dont know anything about sound cards so I will just say what dxdiag says..
Spoiler
Sound 1
Name: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) Device ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01VEN_10ECDEV_0888SUBSYS_1 Drivers Name: HdAudio.sys Version: 6.00.6002.18005 (English) Date: 4/11/2009 10:21:30 AM Provider: Microsoft Then Sound 2 Name: Digital Output Device (SPDIF) (High Definition ...Then the rest is pretty much exactly the same as Sound 1 Maybe its my power supply not giving enough power. I had a power supply die before and bought a new one which died a week later. I sent it back and got a better one so maybe I am just paranoid. I always have a notepad with PoE stuff open when I play. I also sometimes when I alt tab to the notepad all the writing is blank I have to scroll up and down to make it reappear. Maybe this has nothing to do with it though...... Copy the error message that you get and what errors at this time you see in windows event viewer?
The max temperature for your video card is 105C, sor the normal temperature would be around 50-60С in idle and 60-85 in work. If its more then 85C look your thermal grease it could be rubbed off and your video card cooler is it working fine. Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. nah, your pc is good to play poe, is old but if you turn off shadows no problem, turn on vsync to limit fps, less fps less overheating, and disable shadows

![]() I started using my monitors resolution for the game.. 1152x864. This problem happened a few times but I didn't see the message those times although I did see that yellow caution thing. Before the game would just crash and I would get a different message but I updated my graphics driver a few days ago. (9.18.0013.1070 is what dxdiag says.. the file was called 310.70 not sure which is the version and which isnt). I found out I am using directX 10.. maybe I need to update that? I googled a bit and seen http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/151761-fixed-display-driver-stopped-responding-and-has-recovered/ That page about making your graphics card use phsyx instead of auto select like the default has.. well I did that so dunno if it will fix or not lol. ![]() Those are the settings I have been using forever (other than recently raising resolution higher). My default are higher but I dont mind low graphics.. I also seen a youtube video where it says change power settings to high performance. I have it on balanced right now... dont really want to raise unless I need to. Maybe power supply failing..? The PC at my families place is better but PoE plays like a slideshow here, even on minimal settings.
But of course it could be EU server issues because 2 days later players complained that they couldn't even load town. If you graphic card is overheating your PC will just shut down, same with CPU. You can change the max Temperature before shut down but it's not recommended. I also had that graphic card error some years ago and at some point my graphic card broke so I had to fix it with help of an oven, so you better check the GPU temperature. |

What is your power supply?
Is power cord plugged in to the card? And while you are checking that also blow off all dust and dirt that probably piled up inside. |

" Its a well known problem with older AMD GPU's that It stops working and then recovers. When I had my old pc which had similar GPU, I reinstalled the drivers completely and It fixed the problem. Intel Core i7-3970X 3.50ghz (OC @ 5.2ghz)
