Need GGG to Clarify Loot and Scaling (farming + endgame issues).
Hello, first, I love the game so far, it's been highly addictive. Thank you GGG for sharing your game with the world. Now, I have an important question that I became concerned with after speaking and searching around for some information. If the data below is incorrect, I apologize and would appreciate a developer answer.
After doing some searching and speaking with people, it seems the consensus is when you kill mobs lower level than you, the chance to get drops is reduced, by level. Someone gave me a -2.5% chance per level, but I'm not sure if that is 100% accurate, feel free to correct. Now here is the main concern, maps are supposedly end game, but the monsters that spawn in here are in the 60's to low 70's based on the current act 2. That means when you start getting higher level, according to the information above, you will get worse chances of loot each level. Example- You are level 75, doing a level 63 map, with the information above you are getting a -30% loot penalty (Not sure if it's just quantity or rarity, please specify). Well in order to get higher level maps you are supposed to do maps. But since you are now a higher level, there is a penalty, so you will get less than what you used to get back when you were level 63. So with the addition of act 3 (and future acts scaling off act 3), lets assume we get mid 70's to low 80 maps. You will still be incurring a huge penalty once you hit the 90 bracket. People will get there, I heard Chris say it might take people about 6 months on livestream, so this is a problem in the future. Here is my argument- So in a sense, higher levels are being penalized for being high level, which makes no sense. It should reward the player for being THAT strong. I honestly don't see the point in making mobs drop less and less loot. If a level 40 wants to kill normal Brutus for loot, that should be done without penalty. Why punish this? It's not like that person will be getting any experience or anything, it's just loot. This game is about loot, right? Then look back at the map issues with this current penalty, it just seems wrong. Solution- -Get rid of the loot penalty. There is no need for it, people farming lower level monsters will get their lower level drops without gaining experience. People shouldn't be forced to make another low level character to get the maximize drop rate in that level. If I want to farm on my level 70, I should be able to, and without any downside. I got that character that high, let me enjoy killing lower level monsters with the same loot. -Remove the loot penalty from all end game maps. This allows players to enjoy the end game without suffering any penalties, aside from experience when farming lower level maps. Thank you for reading. |

There is a currency drop penalty, but levels areas over level 63 are treated as level 63.
The specific penalty is reduced currency drops of 2.5% per level, with a 2 level buffer. So, this penalty will not affect high level characters in map content. The penalty only affects drop rates of currency (Orbs). There is no penalty to other items. The purpose of this penalty is to prevent high level characters exploiting a higher killing speed to get increased currency drops in low level areas. So, if you take a level 30 character to a level 20 area, you will have reduced currency drops of 20%.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing it up. :)

" Thank you very much for the information. So let me see if I understand it correctly. If I'm level 73, and I'm in a map level 63 and above, there should be 0 penalty? The penalty only affects currency drops, and is only in effect at areas lower than 63. Is this correct? Thanks! Last edited by rayuken#4669 on Dec 16, 2012, 11:01:26 PM

" If you are over level 63, you count as being level 63 for this purpose, so there is no penalty.
" Thanks! Much appreciated |
