How about donation DLC?

I probably speak for most people here when I say I want tons of more content than we have now, like being able to choose class-gender, more weapon types, more acts, more monster types, more this, more that. But I also know PoE is a free to play game, so it won't cost anything t all to download and play. Also, I do know they plan on making money from the cash shop, but since they don't want us to buy advantages, they won't sell us anything other than cosmetic stuff, more stash pages and stuff like that. Also, putting up more stuff, expansions, DLC and so on on Kickstarter obviously won't work. Not entirely sure why, but that's what everyone tells me.

But how about DLC like a second gender for every class, more weapon types, more acts and so on, financed mostly by donations? I have currently paid $100 for PoE, and if the next rank wasn't $150 more than what I have already paid, I'd go for that one too. If they lowered the next rank to $200, count me in. :) (assuming I'd pay $200 minus the $100 I have already paid, of course.) And I know a lot of you would do the same. Maybe not go quite as high, but I do see a lot of supporters on the forums, and several people who are buying the game "in the near future". And I also know the open beta starts in a month, so what about after that? Or more precise, what about after release?

That's where donation DLC comes in. Once the game is released, I don't think it's useful to keep supporting the game. It's already out, after all. But what if we can have a DLC Wishlist-forum where we add all sorts of crazy ideas for things we want in DLC? We could then have a list of the most popular ideas in a post, and GGG could check the post regulary and see what we want, and what could be doable. I know this would be time consuming, and making DLC would cost a lot to make. But when it comes to money, they could support them by donations, like they support the game now?

The difference would be we could donate whatever we want for the DLC they announce. If we don't want to pay for it at all, that's fine. We'll get the DLC anyway. But if we do want to pay for it, we can. Think about different genders for the classes, as I know a lot of you want that. How much would it be worth to you? If you don't care about it at all, don't pay anything. If you really, really want it, and make sure it looks awesome, pay a few bucks. Ten, fifty, a hundred. It's up to you.

This way we can all help finance a lot of great DLC, making a great game better. But the best part is no one is ever forced to pay anything for the game, and everyone would get all the DLC anyway. All we do is donate a bit of money to make it even better for everyone. :)

Wouldn't it be the same, if people just add their suggestions to the game and buys GGGold? I'm not sure how this would change anything. GGG will make DLC, and they are counting on people buying GGGold. I would prefer to buy GGGold instead of donating to DLC.

I'm thinking more that GGG anncounce the DLC (based on the list we make), and we can then support the specific DLC by donating money before it's done. That way they have more money to create the DLC with. :) It's entirely optional, but the idea is to make the DLC the best possible. Basically, if you buy GGGold, GGG can do whatever they wnat with it. They can go on vacation with your money, if they feel like it. But if we donate to DLC, those money will be earmarked for the DLC.

I get your idea. I'm just not sure if it's ethical.

If they have a cash shop, which is supposed to be their source of income, it might seem a bit odd if they'll suddenly go for "but hey, you can also just give us the money, then we'll promise to make it faster".

I don't think it will make GGG look good, no matter how eager the community is to pay.

Altso a bit eliteistic, that only those with money will have a saying on that matter.
