is minion instability at all viable?

i really wanna roll a build that uses the minion instability passive with maybe mon'tregul's or chober giving the zombies more life before they KA-POW. maybe its cause i loved nihilatek in d2 and i just wanna explode corpses. most importantly though, i want to know if this is a complete waste of time

my guess is that it is not very end game viable... but i still wanna make some kind of summoner build. if anyone can link me to a fun, 1.0 summon build i would be more than gracious

exploding zombies are still my dream tho

I think you mean Minion Instability. Detonate Dead is the active skill that detonates corpses.

thanks, noted. but maybe a build that uses both! would love it! might have to do some experimentation!

Minion Instability is a great Keystone for pretty much every summoner build. It actually helps quite a bit with the summoners greatest weakness; the boss fights.

Just keep in mind that the only things actually affecting it's damage are minion life and fire damage nodes, spell damage or minion damage wont work.

No it doesn't. It only helps skeletons since most bosses are gonna AoE your zombies/specters anyway.

Also, are we talking about the same summoners? I mean, the ones that have the nerfed minion life and damage?
If you're reading this, I'm probably on another year-long ban.
Thanks GGG.
Personally I think that minion instability is absolutely nessesary on any summoner build. The added damage from spamming skels as they pop like popcorn is useful.

:) granted I think they nerfed minion health a bit too much but I still love my summoner witch

Usually when you start your post with "No" you should say something that contradicts my point but you didn't do that.

Minion Instability only scales off of things that specifically your minion's damage or life or gems that are linked to the minion (fire pen, ignite, etc.). Gear and passive nodes that provide x% increased fire damage apply to the character, not your minions.

Otherwise you're right, Minion Instability is terrific for summoners. Best passive point a summoner can spend, including the +1 spectre node.

MI is the only way in which a summoner is viable.
My words are poetry and thus not subject to spellcheck or the laws of grammar.
So much wrong information in this thread. Minion instability is awful for endgame.

Minion instability is good before your minions get nice and beefy. After that, you should drop it so your minons actually gain survivability. They explode at low life (33% or 35%). That effectively cuts their HP by 1/3 which is huge, especially for keeping spectres alive.

The ~800 damage per skeleton is hardly a lot of damage. Zombies need to be alive to do damage. Skeletons and zombies need to tank for your spectres. The goal should be to have as few minions dying as possible. I'm fairly sure they don't explode when they get one shot eiter.
