Reporting the unreportable...Player moderation by players

Suggestion:

Automatically mute a player when X-amount* of players have him/her on their ignore list.

Reasoning:

It happens all to often, you are just minding your own business when all of a sudden you get a message from some bot telling you to come to their site to buy their equipment for real money.

This goes against the spirit of the game where you can not "pay-to-win"

in the current game it is not possible to report these players because both party-chat and whispers do not offer a report-function.

It would be great if this would be added. To lift the strain from the GGG-crew moderation team a bit you could give the community the tools to moderate itself.

This would also apply to the general chat and the trade chat. Disruptive behavior would be called to a halt if it offends enough people. This would prevent further damage...

*this amount will be what he developers see as a fair number.

Possible abuse:

A large enough group of players could band together to "bully" someone by massive ignore-listing a player they dislike. although this might be a problem in some cases the overall community would benefit from the removal of unwanted speakers and 'trolls'

why not just have the ability to report whispers?

a lot simpler than having a whole system in place to monitor players, and for each player (in probably over a million) count how many other players have him on their ignore list, in real time.
and as you mentioned, even if GGG do implement such a complex and completely unneeded system, it can - and most definitely will - be used to bully people.

meanwhile, just PM a moderator in-game and tell them to check it out.
that's what I usually do.
works like a charm, and my ignore list is almost empty.

It would be useful if you know the player-name of such moderators.

As for complexity, that is a matter of a few lines of code...

The unneeded part you mention, why? apparently it is needed because these things happen on a regular basis. If you let's say need 150 negative listings to be muted, you could theoretically bully a person...yes. But how likely is it that you have 150 like minded people to:

A: join you in your extensive bully practice

or

B: Would make 150 fake accounts to get someone muted. Something which can be undone by sending a appeal?

by "complexity", I meant "runtime complexity". not necessarily a thousand lines of code, but something that puts a ton of extra load on the system.
in fact, I can make your CPU explode with just a few lines of code. a simple loop where each thread does something, then creates 2 more threads that do the same :)

you can learn the moderators' in-game names. they're usually identical to forum names, and end with "_GGG". if not, just click their profiles and view characters.
no need to implement a crazy new system, that not only is costly to maintain, but also has very obvious flaws you pointed out yourself.

and the end result, needs to be the ability to report whispers.
simple, straightforward solution.
GGG can have an automated system on their end, sorting through reports.
