Why are claw sockets blue?

But claws are melee, right? It seems that DEX with STR would make more sense.
What blue gems would you use with green attack? Beats me.

LOL thanks. I use spork because it generates power charges like CRAZY with all my crit chance... My build likes to spork until power charges full(although my spork does exorbitant damage), then warp in, discharge. with voll's on, discharge+increased critical strikes, discharge gets 89% chance to crit, which will yield me another 7 power charges, which I can discharge immediately... The only totem I use is cast on stun+decoy

Crit gems are blue. Dual claws (Dual strike) + Crit gems + faster attack = win.

But, you don't have to put attack gems in the claws. It also depends on what kind of armor you wear. There are weapon types for each stat, and each combination of stats. Claws is the one they had in mind for the shadow, although any class can use them. The primary claw nodes (Lots of crit, dmg, and lifesteal) are in the Shadow tree. Therefore, claws are the same stats as the Shadow.

Claws are mainly designed for Shadow, which is a dex/int class. Double strike (green) and dual strike (green) are good attacks (one for dual wield tho).

But a claw can only have tree sockets, so you never use your attack gems there anyway.

Edit: AND, Shadows are designed with crit in mind, and crit gems are blue.

So bottom line, Shadows should never use claws.
