Mercy Mission and A Dirty Job
EDIT: I will just edit this post because ppl tend not to read whole threads.
When entering map that contains Mercy Mission mini boss, there should be a pop up window telling you, as a part of tutorial, that you are about to fight monster with freezing attacks and explain how it exactly works. Guessing on what does what or searching on forums things that should be in game is bad design. I know that this game is supposed to be hard and I like a challenge but I also think that there is difference between hard and impossible. While playing Mercy Mission I got to that mini boss fight in which I was permanently frozen and couldn't do anything. I just stood there and watched as my character died without even getting a chance to run away or land a single hit. So on my second run, I kinda knew what was waiting for me and I was walking slowly so I don't run into this guys frost again. Unfortunately enemies see me before I see them, but I was lucky enough to get missed by his first frost ball and I backed away until I got better look of him. Than I started dodging his attacks until I got into melee where I started to hope to god that he wont freeze me while in melee, and thankfully he didn't. So I am wondering if this is really how it should be on your first mission? Shouldn't there be a limit to how long he can incapacitate you before you become immune to his frost? As I said difference between impossible and hard. Second thing I have to complain about is mission A Dirty Job. I spent more than 10 minutes running in circles trying to find one guy. When you get counter for how many are left they should also appear on map so you don't have to waste time running in circles just to find that last zombie standing still in a place you went to at least 30 times. Trespassers will be shot survivors will be shot again! Last edited by BJSV#5607 on Nov 29, 2012, 9:27:18 AM

Both of these are side quests that offer significant rewards for their completion (namely Phase Run and respec points); consequently, they present a challenge greater than their respective levels. Neither of them need to be completed, but their rewards are significant enough to justify the difficulty should you decide to try.

They can be difficult as much as they can, but if you get frozen and cant do anything you can even be lvl over 9000!!!, maybe you wont take any damage but you will stand there like pinata doing nothing.
And 2nd one is not difficult its just annoying. Its ok for them to make enemies stronger but its not OK for enemies to hide. This is hack and slash not hide and seek. Trespassers will be shot survivors will be shot again! Last edited by BJSV#5607 on Nov 29, 2012, 10:19:01 AM

You can skip them is the point, if you find them too hard go over level it and come back. Heck even if you pick up one piece with frost res before you get to Hailrake he is way easier. You can also slap on 2 hp rings to help reduce the duration.
As for the other mission they don't "hide" you just have not gone over that part of the map. I admit it can be slightly annoying but thats about it. Beyond_Bow_BobMKIII Level 80 Tornado Shot Scion

" So... Hailrake shoots freezing spears. Dodge the first volley and kite him. He slowly regenerates mana and will shoot another spear off every 10s or so and he'll run away from you to cast it. On normal just pick up a Crude Bow and an iron ring or two and you can trivially kill him without getting touched. It's really not difficult. You can't just stand in his strong attack and then say it's unfair. |

" Well thats the point when i fought him, he was firing freezing spear non stop so if he hits me with first its over, and if i dodge one he fires 2 more until i get into melee. I killed him its not hard, but it is stupid to say gg after getting hit by first bolt that doesnt even kill you. @Zeshin pls read again my post and my 2nd post. I dont find them hard. Trespassers will be shot survivors will be shot again! Last edited by BJSV#5607 on Nov 29, 2012, 10:19:52 AM

" Do you know how the mechanics work? You only get frozen on every hit if you have very low HP, or incredibly bad luck (critical on every hit). Im guessing you had very low HP, which is typical when you first do that side quest. With just a few extra levels, and maybe a few items with +HP you would notice yourself just getting chilled rather than frozen a lot of the time. |

If you think Hailrake is op, just wait until you awaken a large mob of elementals in Pools and Streams. Even after they were nerfed, they can still spam Coldsnap nonstop in large enough quantities. Or worse: the same pack in a map with more cold damage and cold res penalty mods!

" as said above, this is nonsense: if you (have enough life to) take no damage, you will not be frozen... even if you take some low amount of cold, you'll only be frozen from a critical hit (and yes, ice spear has a high chance to crit). so, any option to take less damage (evade/dodge/resist/life) makes you less vulnerable to be frozen. And there's no need to fight hailrake when you first face the island's entrance, even more if you rush fast through the terraces and are barely level 3 - if you are geared well, go back from the mud flats with level 4, if not then grab the passages WP first and then do the quest... and keep fetil pool until you need the reward ^^ invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

there is a interesting thread about ingame mechanics
just go to www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/11707 an search for "damage types". it explains exactly what duration you get frozen when hailrake lands a critical strike on you. i would too recommend doing that quest later when you are able to get flasks with "dispells frozen" attribute and have more life. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
