seriously, it's a pvp gem, how many threads must we make about this?

it's for pvp

Well, ok ... that's the reason why I sometimes don't like the poe community.
It simply sucks to have a support gem that is only usable for pvp when most people don't even do pvp.

How would that be a problem if summoners could use it for their minions.
It would certainly allow for some interesting builds.

I'm sorry if you didn't like my post. I've nothing against Budget, or people asking questions. But this is not the first, nor the second, nor the third.... thread about the apparent lack of use for CoD.

You have to realize that not every skill gem or support gem will be relevant to you. Nor every item, or passive node, or anything else. That does not mean they are bad, or shouldn't be in the game. Path would be very, very boring if that were the case. Personally, I look forward to a time when there are five or so times as many skill gems in Path as there are now, even though most of them I'll never use. (Hopefully that day will come at some point :) Not every skill has to be uberfarmclearspeed good to be fun or worth fitting into a build)

About CoD + Portal: Personally, I don't like it. Granted, I've never had a portal gem drop for me, so I can't "test" the combo, but just from experience.. if I die, it's usually from some pretty bad shit (or because I'm bored and taking unnecessary risks; it's fun to do sometimes). I don't want a portal popping up right next to some really bad shit. Ever. I'd rather just pop a portal at the beginning of a zone I anticipate trouble in, or face the consequences of slogging it back if I don't.

is there a way to make it were cast on death works for totems?
Every time I find one of these in a HC league I die a little inside.

According to the wiki in PvP skills supported by CoD do 75% less damage.

So is it just a skill for fun? A pure portal thrower? Don't get it.

So on level 20 you get about 300% more damage but do 75% less damage in PvP.
(1 + 300%) * (1 - 0,75) = 1
Yes, you do the same damage as if you would cast it manually without the downscaled cast on death level 20.

I guess you have never played against a Cast on Death build, then. The damage it deals upon dying is simply insane, even with the -75% damage nerf.

Plus, there was a glass canon Build of the Week based on this gem. I guess that with good IIR and IIQ, you can really do nice things with it.
The nerf is PvP only. So yes, you can do insane damage with it OUTSIDE of PvP.
Even post-nerf, I get one-shot by the build. It's really very very powerful.
Than you probably would have gotten one-shot without that gem but manual casted.
I guess you wouldn't understand how massively violent the CoD pvp build is. It casts a lot of high damage spells over a huge area of effect upon the death of the character. This isn't something that can be achieved by any other build.
I have a reasonably tanky build, and usually take a few seconds to get killed, rather than the instant death CoD can cause.

Imagine : up to 18 spells at quadruple damage (which gets back to full damage after the 75% reduction), over a 60% increased AoE, with the Pain Attunement keystone, and all nodes chosen in order to maximize damage, and equipment geared towards even more raw power, without the need of a single defensive stat.

In short : no, it's not possible to deal that much damage without Cast on Death.
