Cast on Death - what's the point?

Seriously, what possible purpose could Cast on Death have? I can't figure it out. It doesn't work with minion gems, and dying is the kind of thing that should be avoided at all cost in PoE. Am I missing something here? Who would ever use it?

When I got this support gem I immidiately thought of my summoner.
But no! It's not working. So this actually seems to be a support gem that is absolutely irrelevant and useless for hardcore. In fact the only way how it could be useful is if we had some kind of resurrection spell that could revive a hardcore character within 1-2 sec after the death. EDIT: Or PvP like adghar said. " Well, ok ... that's the reason why I sometimes don't like the poe community. It simply sucks to have a support gem that is only usable for pvp when most people don't even do pvp. How would that be a problem if summoners could use it for their minions. It would certainly allow for some interesting builds. |

What if you use another trigger gem to summon skellis who are also linked to cast on death and a spell?

" Who again is forcing you to use it? There are plenty of gems which can only effectively be used by niche builds which are not explored by most players. I like the gem. " No it doesn't suck. There are over 60 support gems. You don't like the PoE community because some of them like paying pvp? I don't enjoy pvp that much either, but at least I understand that some people are different from me. Also, as some players have pointed out, portal + cast on death is really good for many softcore players, even those who rarely die. If you've ever died after forgetting to get a waypoint and moving through to the next area, you'll understand why. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:
