1. Leave uniques as legacy
2. New drops of the unique are nerfed to be balanced
3. Greatly increase drop rates of the unique

People with legacy item = happy
People without item = happy because now they can at least have it (even if its less powerful)
Everyone = happy

no lol, I don't want my new Kaom to be a lesser version than Legacy Kaom. Not happy.

I say, we downgrade and balance all the Kaom and then it's fair and everyone is happy.

Then people with legacy kaoms aren't happy because their item got nerfed..

Your rare gear is 99% certain to be "lesser version" of the top gear already. How is this any different than that?

I have the top gear already.
Ugh, people are such crybabies about "legacy" items, it's vomit-inducing.

The items are being balanced to more appropriately fit the game, they are not necessary to complete the game, nor even compete in end game activity. They are earlier (often superior) versions of items that will still drop. They will only even exist in standard and hardcore, and the numbers in hardcore will slowly shift over to standard as time goes on. They aren't providing an unfair advantage EXCEPT to to people that have been playing in these leagues and already have a god damn advantage by virtue of playing in a league that serves as a dumping ground for this game. If you are relatively new to the game and don't already have outlandish amounts of wealth on standard; THERE IS NO REASON TO PLAY STANDARD.

Diablo 2 had been like this since ladders came around. .08 Valks, Btals, Bmana charms, storm circlet, armageddon fletch... all this crazy shit existed on non-ladder, and guess what? It was a lot of fun having items that could literally never drop again. Duping was rampant in Diablo 2, but if you had a good group of people to trade with, "perm" (which meant that they had actually existed since .08, and not duped from .09 onward) .08 items were some of the most valuable, interesting items in the game. You know what's pretty cool? Having an item that will LITERALLY NEVER DROP AGAIN. Guess what is completely irrelevant? Not being able to get that item. You don't need it to do anything in the game, you are being a brat.

This is such a classic case of "I can't have it, so neither can anybody else". It's a terribly bratty attitude.

For the record, I don't even own a Kaom's, Shav's, Soul Taker, or any of the other uniques being put up on the proposed chopping block. Unless Thunderfists count. My main uses rares in every single slot except Thunderfists.

This is so true.
I don't understand why people who care that much about legacy items are playing standard, these games are all about leagues, join the new one or deal with it o.O
The compromise with legacy uniques is that they only are available in the legacy leagues.
Bullshit, you get the game for free.
