make max socket count visible on gear

instead having a newbie looking up the mechanics thread for itemlevel and restrictions on max sockets on gear, there could be a slightly transparent socket placeholder mark on the possible socket places an item can have.

this way no player will ever spend countless jewelers to 4 socket one handed weapons.

of course it should only be visible when sockets are displayed on the item.

If I remember right, there is going to be flavor text on currency item hovered over gear.

good idea in principle. implementation depends entirely on presentation of the information, for example if these ghost sockets only appear when a jeweler orb is selected

It's not hard to google 'poe ilvl sockets' and then type /itemlevel... Not being a dick or anything, but stop with all these little hand holding suggestions people!

Because Google is a reliable in-game tool that everyone should be using when it comes to crafting mechanics, right? Not being a dick or anything...

Why spend our time in Path of Exile actually playing and having fun, when we can instead be looking up builds, mechanics and spreadsheets, right? Not trying to be a dick or anything.

It's not a priority, but I'd like to see something like this in-game.
- iLevel
- max sockets.

If it can't be shown on the item for some reason, then make it show when hovering a relevant orb over the item.
Examples:
Hover Jeweler's Orb - indicate max sockets.
Hover Orb of Alchemy/chance/transmutation - indicate iLevel

Highlighted this because it is a issue I have with trading for unique (or some high quality rare) body armor or 2 hand weapons that can drop below level 50. It would be a lot easier for me to know what its max socket count is by looking at the pop up item window rather then to need to trust that the person I'm trading with is being honest.


example: Lets say that I'm on my farming summoner build that I (for some reason) REALLY want a queen's decree for it and that someone links a queens decree into trade chat, letting me know on tooltip what its item level is by hovering over its chat link it will let me know if I'll bother with contacting the one selling it.

Then GGG has to remove the highlight of allowed socket colour when you pick a gem, because this feature is even more noobfriendly than this suggestion...

update:
this issue of "orbs wasted" meanwhile got addressed partly by blocking the appliance of jeweler orbs if max sockets are rolled already.

but it would still be nice to have the visible info before rolling sockets.
