Unable to name my first character [bug?]

Hello there,

I downloaded the client after I purchased and activated the Beta Key, and tried to start. Game launches, good so far. But now I want to create a char. I select the ranger and this girl needs a name.

Well I tried more as 20 minutes to give this babe a cool name, but all are used? Can't believe. What is wrong here?

Is this a bug, or is it really true that a name can used only one time? Wheeew that is strange.

Please can anyone help, or give me some answer?

Well I also tried different combos, but it is not allowed to use -. and numbers in the chars name.

So how to start without the possibility to give a name?

With best regards
DK

PS:
I hope this is really only a bug :)
There are a lot of characters in this game. It's not a bug. Try less popular names.

And yes. Each name can only be used once.
Wheew, I can't believe!

Well now I found a free one, after unless counts of trying.

That is a really suggestion!

Accountname = unique
Charnames = not unique

This will help to minimize the frustration for new players like me to find a new name for their char.

I suggest to add as hidden prefix, or suffix, the Account-ID to the choosen char name.

With best regards

That couldnt work at all.

What if you whisper a player ingame? or invite him to your group?
thats just nothing that could be realized.

Think about it, sure it is possible.
I beliebe that the frustration is much greater when you have to try 1000 names until you find one that is free, as not to whisper to an char.

And sure, when you know the player, you know the accountname of the char-owner.

So you can whisper to the owner.

But after all, this naming concept is really misconception from my point of view.

Well try to understand from my point.
I joined today, for a member that is much longer here the problem of finding a free name for a char (and really I can own more as one char) seems to be whining for nothing. You're right because you have a char with a name.

But when there are more and more players online, they all need a name for their characters.

In example when Lynn is in use, okay you can use Lynnn and after that you can Lynnnn and so on.

But after some time you reach the limit how long a charname could be.

That is a real problem, that did not occur after a short while, but after a longer time.

I hope you get my point of concern :)

I definitely do get your problem...I dont even have beta access, I will have the same problem finding (a) name(s), too.

But I don't see a realistic way to have the same name multiple times.

...serious question: Do you know of a game where using 1 name several times works?

Starcraft II. But it kind of sucks, I dont like it and I cant really socialise with or recognise anyone I play with.
Of course, Torchlight 2.
Everyone can name their chars like you want.
Charname is your part, accountname is unique.

And also think about the real world.
There are more people in the world that are named e.g. "Steve Bedfort".

If you look around you'll find even more games, where the char you play is named like you want and only the accuntname is the unique part.

From my point the best choice is every person sign on gets a unique number (playerID) so you can choose whatever you want for accountname or if available charname (or shipname).

There is currently some hot discussion about unique shipname in the universe of STAR CITIZEN (the new gaming universe announced by CHris Roberts). Look there at the forums and search for "unique"+"shipnames".

There many people who didn't like it when they are forced to choose a badlooking name, because their wished name is still in use.

Well so much from my point with greetings

Thinking outside the box makes the best and more recognizeable names IMHO.

Mine is Slurms for example
Well, and if this game should go for gold and success, you have to think about how a newcomer will feel, when he has no choice to find a good name for his char, because in the beta-phase all memberss registered 200.000 and more names?
And they will re-register their char names after the big reset, that might will come after the game gets gold status.

That hurts!
Also the chat should not be the boiling point that turns the edge of possible or impossible.

If you want a global chat, well there are 1000's chatrooms still available on the big big big internet.

Hope I will find later another free name for a second char. :)

Greetings
