How to name a mage/thief hybrid?

No, this thread isn't about Shadow.

Consider you've got a game when you could build any type of character from three classic RPG classes - warrior mage and thief (yeah, hello Skyrim).

With the development of RPG genre many classes which actually were a hybrids became well-known.
For example, when your friend plays a game you don't play, and says he plays paladin, you understand what a paladin is. Actually, there are plenty of more-or-less widespread names for fighter/thief and fighter/mage hybrids, but when one my friend asked what kind of character I play in skyrim I was kinda struck. Yeah, there are many names for such a classes in Tes4: oblivion, most notable being a nightblade. But if you never played Tes4 you would only think 'what the heck is a nightblade?'

So I plan to use your help ;)

Some restrictions:

1) Something that was introduced in a single game, one isn't very well-known, doesn't pass.
2) Something that could be easily confused doesn't pass either. For example, in a game A necromancer is a sneaky mage that uses damaging spells, summons and poisons. But when you read 'necromancer' you most of the time imagine a pure caster with the ability to reanimate dead before anything else. Same goes the druid, which technically could pass, but because of their magic's specialty they don't. So to speak, need a more general name.
3) Something silly. I've found a name trickster on the net. Really, what's that? :D

So, your help is appreciated. Actually, you could ignore the restrictions above or even invent a name, want to get some data :O

Thx for the reply.

Witch hunter could be a name for such a hybrid, but

1) It has that 'anti-mage' feeling;
2) Witch hunter doesn't necessarily use magic or stealth. The truth is, this name could pass for fighter/mage hybrid with the same ease as for mage/thief.

HYbridyner
Mana Mugger

Sorcerous stealer

Bewitching Burglar

couple for you there :)
Those who beat their swords into ploughshares, will plough for those who have not.
Demon Hunter (literally from WC3)
Stalker
Wraith
Spectre
Rogue Magi

After thinking about it, it seems that the class sounds "best" either when it's something "Shadow-y"; a synonym for Shdaow (such as Wraith). Either that, or it's a two word name in which one of the words is "Hunter" or some synonym of it. If it's a two word name and doesn't contain hunter, it needs to have something referencing magic in some manner (such as Magi, Witch, Magician, Arcane, etc.)

You could probably come up with a more creative name if you used an in-universe idea to represent the class. Such as a fantasy world where a guild exists where mages are also trained in the use of stealth and small bladed weapons. Or, a name given to students of magic that go rogue and work in criminal organizations.

Hate to be 'that guy', but Skyrim isn't exactly a RPG. At best it's a FPS Grand Theft Auto with minor RPG elements. But it's mot a RPG any more than GTA: San Andreas.

The first mention I know of a 'Nightblade' is a DC Comic character, who appeared way back in 1990. I'm pretty sure the word is older than that, though.

You should study folklore a bit more. ;)

But anyway, let's get back on topic. Why do you need a specific name for your 'class'? Why not just call it a thief/mage hybrid?

Have i missed it, or has really noone remembered the:
Bard

Proud 5th duelist in the Jul 1 2012 Ladder Race and in the Nov 3 2012 Solo Turbo Race :D
And even prouder 4th Templar in the Nov 10 Four-hour Party Hardcore Race :P
Current OB success:
top 20 Ranger in 105 Minute Turbo Solo (S4E9)
The bard is a singer, who uses music first of all to buff the party and debuff the enemies. Yes, he can use magic and some thief skills, but I think he's an entirely different class.
