PoE doesn't scale items very well
|
This is a classic problem that all arpg's have in common, the items we find are not scaling up properly to match the character level. Here is a good example:
I can use this 5s-4l chest armor at level 28 in Normal Act II. By contrast I have a level 68 summoner witch using: I'm using this chest as it has high armor and evasion (so far it's the best I've found in Anarchy playing self-found) but it is only 4s-3l . In all the time I've played to get to level 68 I have only found a couple of 5 socket chest armor and no 6 socket armor yet (also makes the 6s vendor recipe 100% worthless). Now that I'm up to Merciless Vaal I should have expected to get more 5s 4l chest armor but nothing is dropping. I have close to a full tab worth of unique items but most are for my lower level toons and I've out-leveled their usefulness. I know that it's a cheap and easy way out for the devs. to increase Merciless and end game difficulty by making it very difficult to get better high level gear but it is more than a little frustrating and is a major disappointment and impediment to wanting to play a toon to higher levels. Starving us for Jewellers and Fusings is also a cheap and easy but wrong way to keep us underpowered and automatically make the high levels harder. Since I'm a casual player this is killing the fun factor of playing PoE and is seriously diminishing my desire to play a toon to get to the end game maps. I don't need a bunch of "it's RNG and RNG is a bitch" type of troll replies, that's too easy and while true it is still a crap response. The PoE devs. should do a better job to give us more incentives to play a toon to the end game maps. It really shouldn't require playing full time to enjoy getting to the end game and I'm not wanting a watered down easy walk in the park Merciless level of difficulty either. There has to be a better way to balance the fun factor and keep the difficulty at the same time. Right know GGG has missed the target on this aspect of PoE. Loot drops are fine.
If you want to intentionally gimp yourself playing self found, that's your right. But don't complain about drops when you are playing from a disadvantage in this multiplayer game balanced around parties, trading with players, and not being solo. If you want good loot you're going to need to start playing with a mfer (or become one); probably when you get to maps. That's just how the game is designed to be played if you want to actually get any reasonable loot. Last edited by DestroTheGod#5470 on Aug 25, 2013, 12:09:27 PM

I'm a supporter of self found play... and hate it when people complain about loot. That's not what this guy seems to be bothered by. He wants his lower level gear to level up with him. Sorry... but that would make the game utterly pointless. You wouldn't need items to drop anymore. This game isn't about playing through the content with the best you can imagine... it's about making do with what you have.

" Sorry, but the explicit intention of GGG is to strike a balance between solo and party play. OP gives feedback about his experiences with solo / selffound play and what better time for that than in beta? Agree about the MFer part, though this might be a different topic. If you want more jewelers and fusings, farm and pick up all the blues as well as rares, id them for alt shards, and build up a large supply of alts. Then, use either a NPC dealer (2:1 alts -> jewelers, 4:1 jewelers -> fusings) or a player in trade chat to accumulate these orbs. A player should be more or less forced to give you better ratios than the dealer, but it may be more time consuming to find a player willing to buy a lot of alts.

It figures I'd get a few hard asses that claim I'm way behind where I should be at level 68.
I thought that GGG would have learned a lot from the super failure of Diablo III last year and wouldn't make you farm forever to get a few Fusings and Jewellers. Playing Diablo III for umteen 100s of hours and never getting a weapon over 1000 dps and never getting a set item really soured me on the whole farm until you quit from boredom crap. While I don't expect it to be raining top end items, the super stinginess of all modern arpgs and forcing you to play like it's a real job is very frustrating. On a positive note though, the frequency of unique items received for time played is perfect. Not too little, not too much, just right. GGG hit the goldilocks zone with uniques and as more and more are added it only gets better. I do think that if GGG expects you to do massive amounts of farming to acquire currency that the inventory should be 1 row taller to allow for more blues to be vendored. Schlepping back to town all the time to vendor the next load of blues and yellows gets boring real fast. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."

well drop rates has nothing to do with scaling
scaling is very good in PoE - even stuff you find a lvl60 can be used at lvl90, not like D3 where everything you wear at lvl59 is useless at lvl60. |
