vendor for skill gems....when GGG?
|
I like the idea of skills being not entirely drop reliant. I can imagine many new players being put off by the system which doesn't help with a F2P game. The problem is achieving this without diminishing the choice involved when picking a skill gem for a quest reward.
Making skill gems into another form of a currency item by making the vendor only accept gems for their gems would work. Currently I have 30 useless skill gems sitting in my stash that no one with anything worth trading would want. I could wait for when I'd make a character to use them, or trade them for useless wisdom scraps. Not that interesting. A vendor recipe that gives a random skill gem of the same colour for 2 of the same type (skill or support) would be fine I think. Possibly even add the ability to use a chromatic on a gem to make it turn into a random gem of another colour. Based on how open the skill tree is an say you want to make a duel claw witch you will not be receiving the skills for your build and that is punishing players.
Now regarding people who accumulated skills in my entire play through i had only got 1 anger gem drop for me and that is used with my murader now another toon needs one and seems every one ran out of them or they want to sell it for me for 1 GCP! and because skills have no value any way if sold to vendor why not just add them to a skill vendor to give more options for people allowing players to pick whatever skills they want while at the same time allowing them to drop. fusing gems and scrolls are consumable, gems are not. And you are supposed to browser vendor to pick up something commonly found and sold, not to visit your personal design shop to describe your build and get what you need.
If skill gems become ever purchasable, the next line would be uniques IMO. btw. I am also for a selling gem recipe idea. Last edited by BesucherXia#3920 on Sep 17, 2012, 5:50:56 AM

" Skill gems are given out as rewards during the time you complete quests and level up. To put these in a vendor would more than likelz make characters overpowered. I think it is fine the waz it is. Its only money. May as well spend it here.
Buy beta. Please Do Not PM me if you have no sense of humour as to what i say on forums. |

What about implementing a stack system to bolster the availability of gems without diminishing their value too severely? For example, when questing you could drop a "green shard", which upon stacking 40 times becomes a random dexterity skill or support. Just an idea.

It is good as it is:
- good for new players to use the most suitable skills for classes, making it easier to match gems requirements, benefit from nearby passives, have useful support gems - balance in race leagues - some skills require some effort to get, availability of certain skills for certain classes make for some interesting choices, trading is important - totally not a problem in long run, with one high level character you will find loads of skills and even one character that finished normal will - trading for skills is terribly easy and not require spamming chat, one message "WTB X gem for chaos" will give you this skill in seconds in ~90% (approximation from own experience) of time, even rare high-level support gems, you can just try at different time if it doesn't work once Availability of gems is very good, value is good, quest rewards give you a nice progression, it's important part of balance in races. I like the game as it stands. You get the skill gems either as quest rewards or by finding them as drops in world. I too have a ton of extra skill gems sitting in my stash - I use them on new alts that I make. I see no point in selling skill gems - this is not a private server where everything is handed to you... You should have to work for you stuff - that gives value and replayability to this game. And ppl, let's not turn this into another D3 - PLEASE. Blizz already screwed up that game by nerfing and dumbing it down 6ft under. The devs have not nor should they EVER follow in their footsteps....

I've played this game only for 2 days and I also think that skill gems need to be sold by NPCs, but only some basic skills (ex. Dual Strike, Split Shot, Fireball, Raise Zombie). And the rest of the skills should be acquired by drops or by trading with other players.

" Trantis, play for a week, I guarentee you you'll NEVER need to go to a NPC to buy skill gems lol! I have TONS just from drops alone. And remember, when you play, you are in your own instance. Lvl your character to 10-12 then go back to the low lvl zones a few times - lots of cool stuff drops :) I ran through mud flats last night and a chaos orb dropped :) I find all sorts of cool stuff. THAT'S that charm of this game. I created a new witch last night - fire/lord of the dead and I was eager with anticipation to finish one quest cuz I would receive the "firestorm" skill gem. Buying gems from NPC only cheapens the experience and gives me nothing to look forward to imho. The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
