PoE on a Chromebook?
So I am thinking about getting a Chromebook. Specifically this one
HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook 14-c010us PROCESSOR • Intel® Celeron® Processor 847 PROCESSOR SPEED • 1.1 GHz PROCESSOR CACHE • 2MB L3 Cache MEMORY • 2GB DDR3 SDRAM (1 DIMM) • Maximum supported = 4GB VIDEO GRAPHICS • Intel® HD graphics HARD DRIVE • 16GB solid-state drive I realized the other day that I only use my current laptop to play PoE on. And it works fine (its just a pretty standard HP non-gaming laptop ~$600 4 months ago); I'm sure it could be better in terms of efficiency and speed, but I have no problem sthat I can say are for sure from my laptops performance versus my new shitty ISP. Anyway, I can get this Chromebook for like $250, but if I cant play PoE on it, it would be a waste. does anyone on here have any experience playing (or trying to play) PoE on a Chromebook? Exile

A few problems with it:
1. Disk space... only 16GB.... that will probably just max out your space with Win7 2. Ram... only 2 GB... can be expanded 3. VGA - is it a HD 4000? If not, it'll be really painful... and even a HD 4000 is painful for PoE You'd better spend that money on something else. |

I wouldn't get anything less than an AMD processor for gaming. The Intels are usually faster but the AMDs are better for gaming if you're dealing with an integrated processor.
Arguing on the Internet: What's the point when you can't punch them in the face when they really piss you off?

Chrome book is just for internet/MS Word and stuff like that. Not gaming.

VIDEO GRAPHICS • Intel® HD graphics
Means onboard, means enjoy your 5 fps. So no, I woudn't try, for most gaming needs you WANT something with a dedicated video card, even if mid-end it beats integrated by a mile. |

I wouldn't recommend a chromebook for anything more than surfing the web, or checking emails. The storage space is tiny, too small to be any good for anything else.
If you want a laptop a little more tailored to gaming but you don't want to spend $1200 I would look for one an AMD apu in it. I have very recently picked up an Asus with an A8-4500m and I've have been very impressed by its capabilities. As has been stated the Intel HD series are painful, while Intel does make faster cpu's your always going to pay for it. Check around newegg and sites of the like, you can find A8 equipped laptops for around $350, and if your budget is a little bit bigger you can find one with the apu and a dedicated card as well, allowing it to run in crossfire. Intel HD 4000 isn't too shabby.... but still, no comparison to a dedicated nVidia

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm glad that the first page of posts was not a variation of: "Laptop sux 4 gaming" and other non-helpful crap.
Since I was really only going to get the chromebook because it is quiter and does not get a hot (and it was on sale) I guess there is really no reason. There is no point in getting it if there are going to be any issues at all. My current one is doing fine. I will just use the money to buy more stash tabs and weapons effects..... Exile

" I'm someone who almost always uses laptops due to lifestyle needs, and after having blown over $10k in total over the past couple of years buying (and shipping half way around the world) laptops from Alienware, Origin et al, I've finally found one that gives me near flawless performance for PoE and almost everything else I've thrown at it, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the other brands I mentioned. It's an Asus G750jx, and I highly recommend it to anyone who's thinking of getting a laptop for gaming. I love pretty much everything about it :) |
