Add Golem support gem
Hi, I miss my golems from D2.
Is something like this coming in future for PoE? I was thinking it could be done similar to totems but unlike totems who are linked to spells (and soon to ranged skills) Golem would only work with melee skills and buff skills like Enduring Cry or Molten Shell. And of course it would follow you around like zombies do. The big difference would be that it would use these skills by itself and could use more then one of linked skills. So a player could choose to give it more active skills to use or give it minion supports (or supports for his active skills). Last edited by Torin#1843 on Sep 14, 2012, 10:19:31 AM

Why not have golems that attack from range? If you think about it, golems are magical creatures, right? So why not let a magical creature attack with magic? It could be awesome for support. I'll kite the boss like a madman and let the golem shoot at it from a distnace with lighting bolts, fireballs and so on. Or pieces of itself, for that matter. It could run around throwing bits of itself until there's too little left, then simply die. :)
"And that's how you die properly, sailor boy."

My Thoughts
Golem Support linked to Red skill gem - default attack adds fire damage. secondry skill the red gem itself Golem Support linked to Green skill gem - default attack adds lightning damage. Golem Support linked to Blue Skill Gem - added cold... you get the idea... Treated as a minion, so minion buff as well as skill buff supports added would apply as well. Example: Fire Ball == Golem Support == Added Fire Damage == Minion Life Fireball weilding long life Golem. Or Summon Golem Skill == Fireball == Ice Spear == Multiple projectiles Golem casting either Multiple projectiles FB / IS depending on it's AI. That's a great idea! My take on it:
A Golem Support Gem is a red support gem that you could use with most melee active skills. This is similar to how Spell Totem and Ranged Attack Totem gems work. However, instead of summoning a totem, it summons a mobile golem to do your bidding. For example, if you link a Heavy Strike gem to a Golem Support gem, you get a golem that attacks with Heavy Strike. Same goes for most melee skills, just imagine Ground Slam, Sweep, Viper Strike, Dual Strike, etc. The damage is based off your weapon damage, of course. Naturally, there should be some attack speed and damage penalty for the summoned golem. The totem nodes in the passive skill tree could be augmented so that it also provides bonuses to golems as well. If this seems like a fairly overpowered support, it could reserve 25% of your max life while active, instead of needing to spend mana to summon it. Basically, Golem Support Gem 40% reduced attack speed Golem deals 40% less damage Summons a Golem which uses this skill Reserves 25% of your maximum life while active That'll be fun... . |

I think that's a pretty good way of doing it.

Didn't we already have a Golem thread?
It's a nice idea though, I like it. Last edited by SquigPie#4080 on Oct 17, 2012, 6:06:54 PM

To me, this would be great, since I don't really like the minions we have at the moment and that's what's keeping me from playing a pure summoner, my favourite playstyle.
Since having a lot of different minions (I'd be happy with 2-3 more, but still...) would probably be costly for the developers, both in terms of balancing and new animations, a support gem that creates a golem casting the supported skills would give a lot of variety to minions. It should probably be limited to one per skill supported and not affected by +1 minions nodes. Got beta key on 15/11/2011, thanks dave01

Why don't we start with Skeletons first? :P
My little tribute to Diablo 1 aka why Diablo 3 is the worst part of the series.

" Heh, skeletons are already in as temporary minions that don't follow you; they would also be easily mistaken for the skeleton monsters. Also, since I think those "Skill-using minions" should be limited just to one per type, it would make more sense for them being golems rather than skeletons (in diablo2, if I remember correctly, you can only have one golem).
